Windows 7 Hack – How to Make Your External Hard Drive Faster with Write Cache!

The other day, I literally “doubled/tripled” my external USB hard drive’s transfer speeds from just around 30Mb/s to near 100Mb/s.

By default, write caching is turned off on external hard drives (for USB), if you turn it on, you will be able to take advantage of write cache that allows you to make faster writes.

Of course, don’t forget, you will need to use the “Safely Remove Hardware” icon when you remove your external hard drive.

2-3 times faster performance is definitely worth doing this.

Windows 7 Hack – How to Find the Right Drivers for your Windows 7!

The other day I was installing Windows 7 on two of my friend’s older laptops.  I got Windows 7 installed fine but was having trouble finding the right display and audio drivers.

I found that manufacturers such as HP like to make their audio drivers almost impossible to find by re-naming their audio drivers to HP’s proprietary names.   These can make it harder when HP’s support site only provide drivers for Windows XP.

Of course, don’t forget that most Windows Vista drivers will work with Windows 7 in my experience.  So before following this g

For most of us who use USB flash drives, we probably don’t need auto-play nor pop-ups which Windows 7 brings along with other goodies.  My friend Greg over at GetUSB.info has a great tutorial on that, please head over here for full instructions.

Windows 7 is much like XP in accessing the feature to turn off the USB auto play function. We don’t have a Window’s 7 machine, but I did find a great tutorial from DemoGeek. Here is the info you need to turn off USB Auto Play in Windows 7.
