Webcam Hack – How to Add Zoom to your WebCam!

For those of you looking for some additional zoom-in on your webcam, you might want to try simply adding some reading glasses. This is probably the cheapest way to get a zoom webcam if you have some old reading glasses around.

The focus was a problem for closeups, so I cut a pair of dollar-store +3 reading glasses in half and wrapped the earpiece around the back of the webcam. With a little encouragement it clips the lens over the flat part of the webcam’s orb where the lens peeks out. Perfect.

Here’s a really cool implementation of a soft airgun that can be controlled via internet and webcam.  Now, I can see this becoming a “high” security gadget for your home, simply replace it with more durable guns like metal BB guns for example.  (I wonder if it will be legal to put a real gun too btw… that would really suck though for the intruder if he/

Pet Toy Hack – How to Make an Internet-Enabled Pet Toy!

video://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sMUCPWU0d4s

Here’s an interesting hack concerning a device which can control lasers via the internet to keep your pet busy.

I would have to say this might be a great way to get your dog/cat’s attention while being able to see him/her in front of the webcam. (if she/he is not in sight of course)

I think this is a good idea that could be transformed into something commercial in the future for real dog/cat owners who might be at work.

So what is LaserPup? It is not a dog with a laser

Amazon Netbook Review Roundup!

Here’s a round of of best netbooks you can get from Amazon today from our Laptop Blog:

Eee PC 1000H is probably the top-of-the-line netbook to get right now as it offers a 10″ screen,160GB hard drive, Windows XP, and Atom 1.6Ghz processor.  I like the fact that Eee PCs have been leading the netbook industry and you won’t be disappointed carrying this 3.1 pound beast in your bag. The battery life is estimated at 7 hours but I think as long as you get about 4-5 hours on this, that’s good enough.

There’s other models of Eee PCs,

DIY Rangefinder can tell distance using a Web Cam!

Here’s a great free application that will turn your web cam into a range finder that can tell distance simply by calculating the height of stuff. This site will show you how you can convert your webcam into a modern range estimation tool without any hardware. The math is very simple, so this new technique works very well for vis

Here’s a really cool demo of an interactive projector screen or is it Multi-Touch Projector?

The basic idea is really simple: a program running on the PC will process the images viewed from the webcam, find the position of the penlight/light spot, and use this position to deternine where to place the mouse cursor on the screen. Now, if we can assume that the light spot/poi
