Netbooks Causing Havoc Among Traditional PC Manufacturers

Netbooks, which I highly recommend to have at least one in your household, are certainly causing havoc among traditional PC manufacturers as they have been forced to compete against new portable computers, cutting into their profits.

But this is good news for us consumers who are the ones buying these netbooks and other computers. (Probably less desktop computers now because netbooks are so much more affordable and portable.)

One analyst firm has now said that although companies have maybe missed out on the much larger profit margins offered by fully fledged laptops and deskto

Chrome Hack – How to Install Google Chrome OS on Eee PC!

Here’s a rather fun Chrome hack that shows you how to install Google Chrome OS open source Chromium on Eee PC.   I think this hack should work all across most Eee PCs as hardware is pretty much the same.  Also note that this uses a 4GB USB flash drive as boot, which allows install practically on most netbooks.

It’s actually a Chromium OS build by Hexxeh and he has a

Windows 7 Not Working Well for Netbooks?

In my recent testing of Windows 7 Ultimate with a Triple-Core AMD and 4GB of memory, it performed flawlessly for installing all my XP/Vista programs plus ran about 3-5X faster for rendering HD videos.  Well, it seems like Windows 7 has been reported to not work well with netbooks.

This figure is somewhat surprising actually as Microsoft hasn’t tried to keep that fact hidden; indeed they hav

Snow Leopard Updates will Kill Hackintosh Netbooks with Atom Processors!

I have no idea why Apple wants to have such a tight grip on their products, even controlling down to the processors you can use on their operating systems.  A lot of people have been using Apple operating systems on x86 and non-Apple CPUs, which I see a big market for Apple.  Well, I hope they realize their lesson someday, one of the main reasons Apple went sour in the 90s is because Apple had a tight grip on the software industry.  I remember I bought a PC simply because there were so many more options such as different hardware/software, you name it.

Well, I still haven&

Windows 7 No Restrictions on Netbooks!

Heads up, Windows 7 has “no restrictions” on netbooks:

Until now, manufacturers were being forced into installing a restricted version of Windows 7 which has a lot of features missing, when the new operating system is officially released on the 22nd October.

Microsoft also confirmed that the three application limit originally planned for the Windows 7 Starter Edition has been removed.

Well, I think that’s a good thing for humanity. 🙂

Netbook Hack – How to Add Stereo Microphones to MSI Wind!

Here’s a great way to convert your MSI Wind netbook to be stereo-microphone capable.  I am sure it’d be very similar with other netbooks such as the Eee PCs.

I bought myself a pink MSI Wind when they were first released last year with the intention of using it for university and as a perfect travelling laptop. The Wind is great in many aspects, but the stock inbuilt microphone is severely lacking. It is noisy and not sensitive enough for general use. You have to have your mouth 10cm away

Netbook Hack – How to Make your Favorite Apps Run Faster on a Netbook with Win XP!

Here’s a simple hack that will let your favorite apps run faster on your netbook with Windows XP.  (I think it also works with Vista too or your desktop but mainly, it would make a difference in a netbook since netbooks don’t have powerful CPUs)

My firefox has been slowing down on my netbook but you can make it run faster on your netbook simply by going to Windows Task Manager->right click on the app you want to speed up such as Firefox->then set it to higher than “normal”.

This simple hack would be pivotal for efficient netbook computing so try

Dell Mini 10 Adds a 720P Option of 1,366×768 Pixel Resolution!

Here’s some good news for those of you who haven’t yet bought a netbook, Dell will be offering a higher HD 720P resolution of 1366×768 pixels for those of you who are proficient at reading small characters and love HD movies on the go.

Yes sirey, this is the highest resolution for a 10″ netbook yet.  I am sure most other netbook manufacturers will catch on the drift soon.

With average battery power of 4-6 hours on most netbooks these days, it’s a great option for consumers to go with a netbook, instead of buying
