Battery Hack – How to make a simple motor from a battery and wire

So, I know there a lot of engineer types on Zedomax, so when my buddy sent me this link to a video that showed me how to make motors, I thought it might fit in well here. It’s sort of a silly how to, but its a fun little project you can impress your friends and kids with.

Scooting about on a Stand-up Trike

Wow, check out this nifty Stand-Up Trike, tight! Will they send us a sample? (We will give it out as a prize if they do.)

Stephan Soder came up with the idea as a way to pull himself along while wearing rollerblades. He built the first one in his garage with a small petrol motor.

The commercial version is called the Easyglider X6 which riders can use with a skateboard or roller-blades or stand on a two-wheeled rear platform.

It features an electric-powered front wheel, a handbrake, a headlight, and three power levels. Optional extra

DIY HACK – HOWTO hack an industrial sewing machine!

Looks like Lady Ladyada hacked an industrial sewing machine. Definitely check it out.

Unlike little portables which turn on the DC motor when the foot-lever is pressed, industrials use a clutch motor. The motor is running the moment you turn it on, and when the foot-lever is pressed, it moves the clutch towards the motor, engaging it. This means higher torque when you turn it on, thus getting rid of the frustrating “have to help the machine al

Here’s the video if you can’t see it.  (some kinda YouTube bug…yes blame it on the big company)

Cool, check out this awesome 3-Axis servo motor drawing “HackADay”. You can get the board for really cheap from this guy.

The preprogrammed AVR microcontroller must be purchased directly from Uli Huber. We do not carry the chips.

Wii DIY HACK – Wiimote Lego Tank Surveillance Robot

video://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jPCQyqeU0kw

Cool nice little wiimote Robot…

This robot is composed of Legos and uses a handyboard as the control hardware. It has 4 wheel drive each controlled by a lego motor, and a pan tilt mount for directing light and the video camera. The Wii Remote talks to a MacBook Pro over bluetooth to modified DarwiinRemote software, and the computer in turn communicates with the robot over a serial port. This robot was designed for and used in a small scale demonstration of Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) as an assignment in Intro to Robotics at

Robotic flowers respond to SMS and web input

Cool, check out these artistic robotic flowers that can respond to SMS and web input.

Matt Gardiner’s recent incarnation of his “Oribotics” (robotic origami flowers) project adds a networked component that allows visitors to send SMS messages to the cyborg buds from their cellphones as well as input control messages through a web-based interface.

Robot Video – Robot Jockey Racing

video://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y4amDWh9IUg

Check out this awesome Robot Jockey, I’d say it’s one of the most creative robots ever built.

According to the designer, Martin Buehler, it’s a ”prototype jockey ridden hopping robot that controlled forward speed, hopping height, and pitch balance, the jockey did sideways balance and steering.” I had to read that sentence over about five times before it made sense, you too?

Robot Arm using Potentiometers and Servos

video://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-XChu20hTxU

Wow, this is sweet… This could easily be implemented for medical robotic arms.

A master/slave system I built using potentiometers, servos, and an IFI robotics controler . I took this robot apart a couple of years ago, but I am re-building it for a class at my university. The shoulder rotation, elevation, and elbow joints are Expert Electronics SL820(shoulder elevation) or SL800(rotation and elbow) giant ball bearing servos. I don’t have the origi
