Here’s an interesting three-day challenge where bunch of hackers are loaded on a boat with Sony Xperia Android smartphones. One of the cooler/funnier hacks is where a real flame is used in place of camera flash.

WordPress DIY – How To Check For Spam Links After Being Attacked by Hackers!

About a month ago, some of my blogs got hacked BAD, they were FILLED with porn spam links.  Of course, it took me awhile to realize that it was actually a WordPress security hole.  I complained to WordPress people via Twitter but they told me WordPress was secure.

Anyway, today I heard that WordPress announced that WordPress has security holes, meaning if you don’t use the latest versions, you are susceptible to worms that will take over your admin privileges and possibly do nasty things like put spam links all ov

Web Server Hack – How to Use DDoS Deflate to Protect Against DoS Flooding!

I have been using DDoS Deflate, which is a simple script that will automatically help you against DoS attacks on your server.  Basically it works by killing any HTTPD processes/banning IPs that reach more than set number of TCP connections.

It’s a great script since it’s free, simple, and works well against DoS attacks.  Yes, forget paying that extra hundred dollars to your server company, who’s going to probably install this script anyways.

The real gem of the DDoS Deflate script lies in configuration.  De

Twitter Hack – DIY Home Automation with Twitter!

Here’s a great example of someone who used Twitter to control his home appliances.  Of course, this is completely do-able with some meticulous planning.  I do see more and more automation DIYs using Twitter as communication platform for their projects, very useful indeed for our cluttered world.  You will have to add some security measures to protect against hackers though.

The one thing lacking in most of these devices was 2-way communication between Twitter and the device. In all of the examples I coul

WordPress 2.8.2 Download!

As you might know, I have been fighting hackers all this weekend and last weekend, there seems to be many “loopholes” that the hackers are able to take advantage of, especially if you are even running version 2.8.1.

Well, looks like the WordPress Team has version 2.8.2 available for download, download WordPress 2.8.2 here.

WordPress 2.8.2 fixes an XSS vulnerability. Comment author URLs were not fully sanitized when displayed in the admin. This could be exploited to redirect you away from the admin to another site. Downl

Servo DIY – How to Make a Servo Plotter!

For those of you circuit hackers and servo-addicts, you might be happy to learn that there’s a way to make your own servo plotter.

For this project, we wanted to build a lower cost, lower precision XY table for an installation at TeleToyland. The goal is to allow web users to draw shapes in a sand box, so we wanted a simple XY table that is easy to control from a web application. Since we already have the Web to Hobby Servo connection working well for other installations, using a hobby servo was the de

iPhone 3G OS 3.0 Hack – How to Use iPhone 3G as a Broadband Modem over USB or Bluetooth!

One of the main features of iPhone 3G OS 3.0 is the Internet tethering feature, which basically lets you use the iPhone as a broadband modem over USB or bluetooth.  Smartphones like Blackberry comes with this feature as a standard but I guess Apple still hasn’t figured out how to monetize from it, so they have disabled the function in the official release but some hackers have found how to re-enable it.

It’s a great way to use your iPhone 3G as a broadband modem although I doubt it will be fast enough as iPhone is very slow running on
