What Happens when a CPU Heatsink is Removed!


Do you know what happens when a CPU heatsink is removed?  Basically, your CPU that’s been designed to work with a heatsink (so it can achieve higher clock rates than without), will probably overheat and if you do it too much, it can potentially brick your CPU.

How to Under-Clock Your CPU to run without a Heatsink!

Of course, there’s ways around it, by using a software to “under-clock” your CPU.  I have used this method on my older laptops where CPU overheating is a problem.

DIY Linux HACK – HOW TO optimize your WordPress Blog, MediaWiki, or any other high load website with Compression!

Well, we did a lot of server hacking before with some MySQL, eAccelerator, and httpd.

There’s a lot of major blogs out there I have checked using Web Page Compression Tool that are not using compression. (For one, I checked John Chow’s blog)

Try to check one of your posts instead of checking your main URL as the tool is funky with root domains. (e.g. Check https://zedomax.com/blog/2008/02/23/never-give-up-especially-your-blog-dude/ instead of http://zedomax.com)

Overclocking the G0 SLACR Q6600 to 4GHz

Cool…here’s some for you late night computer junkies:

1.66 volts later and a whole lot of time we managed to break that magical 4GHz mark. I don’t consider myself a hardcore overclocker but for this little achievement a pat on the back was well deserved!

We almost hit 16,500 3DMarks which is almost 500 up on the 3.8GHz run

DIY HACK – The simpler USB2LCD using HD44780


Here’s a cool little USB to LCD hack!

The hardware of the LCD2USB interface consists of the Atmel AVR Mega8 CPU, a cheap and easy to obtain microcontroller with 8 KBytes flash (of which ~3k are used in this application) and 2 KBytes RAM. The processor is surrounded by few parts, mainly connectors to interface to the PC and the LCD.
