Here’s an interesting three-day challenge where bunch of hackers are loaded on a boat with Sony Xperia Android smartphones. One of the cooler/funnier hacks is where a real flame is used in place of camera flash.

NASA Scientists Say “Android Is Easier to Use”

We’ve seen Google launching their Nexus S phone into space with balloons before and here’s another cool fact that Nexus S was used for brains for robots at NASA. Apparently, NASA scientists say that Android is easier to use and easily implemented into their space testing programs due to its open-source nature.

This is quite true, Android is becoming more than just a phone or tablet, it can be used for many embedded projects.

HP TouchPad Runs Android 2.2.1!

Developers have found a way to run Android OS on the HP TouchPad. The good part is that TouchPad is no longer just a piece of deadware but its life could be elongated with installation of Android OS.

The bad part is that it’s still running Android Froyo, which isn’t a great OS for the tablet device and we would like to see Android Honeycomb running on it.

And of course, I probably wouldn’t install Android on a HP TouchPad anyways, WebOS is actually has some really good UI (user interface) I wouldn’t trade Android for.

What do you think?

How to Turn your Android device into Remote Live View CAM for Canon DSLR with Android App “DSLR Controller”!

I’ve been actually looking for something like this, a Live View camera that can be tethered to my Canon 7D DSLR camera so I can have better control while I take 1080P videos I upload to YouTube.

It’s an Android app called DSLR Controller that turns any Android device (including Android smartphone/tablet) into a Live View cam.

Why a need for such things?

First of all, when you are taking a video with a Canon 7D, there’s no way to tell if your camera is in foc

HTC CEO Announces No Locked Bootloaders on Android Devices!

My first HTC smartphone purchase was back in around 2006, it was a really crappy XDA-type of Windows phone that was just bulky and slow as it could ever be.

Well, after using Nexus One, HTC Evo 4G, and my HTC G2 Phone, I am quite convinced that HTC has come a long way and impressed with the quality Android smartphones they can produce now.  I would say HTC tops all other manufacturers right now including Motorola and Samsung for Android smartphones.

I think the main reason behind this is that HTC got on Android first before anyone else, starting with the original Goog

Pantech Vega No.5 Android Tabletphone Does 1.5Ghz Dual-Core and Whupass!

Back in 2003 after I graduated from college, Pantech was a small company in South Korea that developed smartphones for the Korean market.  I actually had  a job offer from there but refused because their headquarters is located far away from Seoul city since I am a city-slicker.

Anyways, Pantech has been slowly growing over the years it seems they’ve just launched the new Pantech Vega No. 5 with dual-core 1.5Ghz processor.  This is exciting as it means there’s going to be slew of other smartphones with a similar processor coming out later this year.

Android Arduino!

The big news this week from Google’s IO Conference in San Francisco is that Google will be pushing for the development of Android Arduino, inviting all Arduino developers all over the world to utilize the power of Android with Arduino.

I think this is going to be great and I will personally be making some Android Arduino hacks soon so watch out for that.

Android Robots Spotted in Korea Boosting Android Sales!

SK Telecom, known as T World for their smartphone/tablet brand in South Korea, have been using their own Android robots to promote Android smartphones and Galaxy Tab Android tablets in Korea.

The other week, I was there to pick up an Optimus 2X (which I will have a full review of), and spotted this Android robot:

DB Cases – Increase your iPhone Sound by 4 Decibels!

Here’s an interesting iPhone case called DB Cases that brings the sound of your internal speakers from the back to the front of your phone, effectively increasing the sound by 4 decibels.

Rudy writes in:

The dB Case is an acoustic case that amplifies the sound of your iPhone by 3-4dB by redirecting the sound towards you. I have a few different models to choose from, including a clip on accessory for people who don’t like to wear cases that much. Each of the cases come in a variety of “green” plastics and dif
