Amp Hack – How to Make a Stereo Vacuum Tube Amp!

Thinking about building yourself one of these cool Vacuum Tube Lamps?  I think these are more artistic than anything.  Who cares how it works, it “looks” great.  I WANT ONE!

The basic circuits are rather similar, but the new project has a number of differences. Most notably it is easier and less costly to build. The rather large output transformers used in the original project have been replaced by ones that are considerably less weighty and less costly. This alone makes for a $40 to $50 savings.

For all you gambling-addicts, you might be surprised to learn that there is a way to simulate crap dice on an LED matrix, here’s a cool DIY project for that.

    Fact: I am a new D&D player. Problem: Having to roll many kinds of dice, which get lost and end up it other player’s hands. Solution: Build an n-sided dice. Method: Take two 5×7 led displays, connect them to an ATmega168, toss in a Freescale’s 3-axis MMA7260QT accelerometer and program some code.

Arduino Hack – How to Make a Sonar Distance Twitter Buzzer!

Here’s an interesting gadget that will respond to how far you are away from the computer and also twitt your distance. I am not exactly sure what the point of this is but I am sure it can easily be applied to system security and related things.

arduino & sonar returns your distance away from the computer and it is displayed on the screen. the farther away you are from the computer the larger the text and the greener the screen. the closer you are, the smaller the text and the redder the screen. get within 5 inches and a buzzer alarms. distance is twittered.

Web Designer DIY – How to Design Drop-Down Menus!

As a web designer, I can hardly find enough time nor space to put nicely designed drop-down menus.  Part of the reason why even this site lacks drop down menus is the fact that it would slow the site down greatly, as it’s slowing down too much due to too much information.

On the bright side, drop-down menus can come in handy for users to navigate your site.  There’s a lot of old javascript ones and the new CSS & AJAX ones that I like.

Food Hack – How to Make French Fries from Scratch!

I’ve actually done this a million times, make french fries from scratch using real potatoes.  It’s actually a great way to make french fries as your fries will end up tasting very fresh and homemade.

Of course, I have to point out that after you cut the french fries, make sure to store them in the freezer right away if you are not going to fry them as they will turn brown and not taste as good.
