Webcam Hack – How to Add Zoom to your WebCam!

For those of you looking for some additional zoom-in on your webcam, you might want to try simply adding some reading glasses. This is probably the cheapest way to get a zoom webcam if you have some old reading glasses around.

The focus was a problem for closeups, so I cut a pair of dollar-store +3 reading glasses in half and wrapped the earpiece around the back of the webcam. With a little encouragement it clips the lens over the flat part of the webcam’s orb where the lens peeks out. Perfect.

Android Hack – How to Add a USB Keyboard to Your Android-based Smartphone!

Remember the Droid hack for making a USB host? Well, I guess that hack can work for most Android-based smartphones plus any regular USB keyboard will be recognized if you simply plug it in.

Android sees the keyboard, and as Chris says, “It Just Works.” A similar process was replicated and tested successfully on an HTC Hero as well, so odds are decent that many other Android phones can use USB-OTG to host a keyboard. No additional drivers were needed for either the Droid or the He

Espresso Hack – How to Add PID to Racilio Silvia Espresso Maker!

I used to work on PIDs, proportional–integral–derivative controllers, which is basically a math equation used for microcontrollers to control industrial devices that need real-time temperature control.

PID takes in sensor inputs to control the temperature of something. (or can be applied to anything that needs real-time adjustments)

You can actually make a PID device yourself by using a microcontroller and applying the equation. But that gets hairy so I won’t get into that here.

The point of th

Netbook Hack – How to Add a Keyboard LED Light!

For those of you who have bought laptops/netbooks that don’t come with keyboard illumination, there’s a better way than simply attaching a reading LED light to your laptop/netbook (although that probably is the easiest way).  You can actually hack your laptop/netbook to add an LED light near your webcam, all so you can control it with your keyboard for turning on/off.  Of course, this is seriously a lot of work for adding a single LED light

X10 Hack – How to Add Face Detection to your X10 Systems!

X10 is probably one of the easiest ways to connect devices and automate your home by making use of the power lines.  (Btw, there’s a new communication medium that will also be running off power lines, I saw at CES but forget what company was doin’ it.  They had powerline LAN that did like 500Mbps!)

If you ever wanted to beef up your X10 camera security system, this face detection hack could certainly prove to be useful if you have a wide area to cover but limited number of cameras. (or just

Droid Hack – How to Add Multi-Touch to Your Droid!

I guess the European Motorola Droid has multi-touch features while the U.S. version don’t, here’s how you can hack the Droid to enable multi-touch on your U.S. version too.

Of course, you might risk bricking your Droid completely useless (although I find that hard to believe if it’s Android-based) so follow directions *carefully*!

For those of you late-adapters, you might want to wait as Droid probably will support multi-touch soon through software updates.

Prius Hack – How to Add Exhaust Sound to a Prius!

video://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H1CzoqEyACQ

Here’s a rather exciting Prius hack that involves adding “fake” exhaust sounds to a Prius.   Mind you, Prius may suck at going uphill but with the addition of this sound mod, you can still “fake” having a big, fat engine under the hood.  Perhaps this might be a new mod that could potentially be game-changing for those of you who pick up chics in your Prius. (or not?)

There’s many sounds available including a V8 or V12 engine, I would have to go with the roaring V12 if I ever get a Prius.
