WiFi Hack – How to Connect Multiple Mobile/Cellular WiFi Connections!

Right now as I write this blog post, I am uploading a 200MB video to YouTube on my virtual machine Windows XP(via USB Broadband) while using my main OS Windows 7 for the blog post (via Palm Pre USB Tether).

Now I officially carry three different mobile WiFi hotspot devices including a regular Sprint USB Broadband card, a USB/WiFi tethered Palm Pre, and a USB/WiFi tethered Nexus One.

So why so many devices?

I am a little frantic about this very websi

Satellite Dish Hack – How to Hack a Satellite Dish to Build a Long Range WiFi Antenna!

http://www.trevormarshall.com/bq-mount-thumb.jpg

For those of you who need to setup your own long-range WiFi antenna, did you know you can recycle an old satellite dish into a long-range wifi antenna?   This could be great for setting up your own private WiFi network over open land and useful range could be up to 125 miles.

Besides that, you could probably even set it up to pick up some free WiFi around your neighborhood for sheezy.

Indeed, you c

Linksys Hack – How to Make a Door Opening Linux Router!

Linksys routers have been very versatile at doing many things besides just routing your internet.  In this example, Sunlight Labs used an old Linksys WRT54GL router and Arduino relay interface to create a cheap automated door opener.

The Linksys WRT54GL’s firmware was replaced with OpenWrt, an open-source linux firmware that can be used on the Linksys router.  The beauty of this hack is that the hackers(Sunlight Labs) use

Router Hack – How to Turn Your Router into a Universal WiFi Repeater!

Recently, my parent’s DSL modem died (after about 10 years of constant use) so I had to replace it with a Belkin router that also has a DSL modem integrated.   Well, now they are left with a useless Linksys router because the Belkin does both, acting as both a DSL modem and router.

I did have a Linksys WAP54G access point that I used as repeater for that Linksys router before but the repeater was never powerful enough to work well.  After doing some online research, I found that you can actually turn almost any router into a repeater if you install DD-WRT.  Most routers don

Clearwire 4G WiMax Hack – How to Get Better 4G Signals using Tinfoil!

For those of you lucky enough to get ClearWire’s 4G internet service, you might still have trouble getting full signal if you happened to live in suburban neighborhoods.

But I guess there’s a pretty cheap fix for that, you can actually increase your signal a LOT by using a tinfoil and making an antenna sorta like above.   I used to use this method actually for my wifi router couple years back, I think it works for 4G modems probably because they are wireless.  Cool.

Lo and behold, as soon as I put that tinfoil dish behind our modem, the signal jumped

MiFi Hack – How to Hack Verizon MiFi WPA!

http://www.willhackforsushi.com/images/mifi-kismet.png

It’s probably not worth it your time to hack a Verizon MiFi but here’s a great blog post showing you that it can be done and vulnerabilities that exist within the default Verizon WPA settings.

The Verizon MiFi is a great tool, but the engineering team who created the default password mechanism should have taken into consideration the limited entropy in the selection of passwords, and the well-publicized attacks against WPA-PSK networks to limit customer exposure.

Windows 7 DIY – How to Turn your Windows 7 Into a Router! [FREE DOWNLOAD]

http://www.howtogeek.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/4wifi.png

Connectify is a free Windows 7 software that lets you turn your Windows 7 into a WiFi hotspot.  Of course, there’s other more complicated ways of doing this but I think this is the simplest and since the software is free, this could be a great way to make your hotel wired internet into WiFi for everyone in your family.

Or if you have a spare computer and you “still” don’t have WiFi in your house, this could be a good option while also turning your spare computer into a network storage.

Router Hack – How to Make a LEGO Router!

http://tfvlrue.files.wordpress.com/2010/01/dsc_100107-234848_size.jpg?w=300

Here’s a “cool” guy who turned his Linksys WRT54GL router into a LEGO router by outfitting with a custom lego case, all using of course, legos.  Also take a look at my DIY on how to make your router faster, which specifically goes with the WRT54G series.

My goal was to recreate, as much as possible, the stackable design of the original WRT54GL case while maintaining full functionality of the router (buttons, LEDs, ports). I also wanted to keep s

Virgin Airlines WiFi Speed Test!

As promised before my venture at CES 2010, I did do a bunch of speed tests on my flight from San Francisco to Las Vegas.  It was a rather short flight of one and a half hours but it was enough time for me to do a bunch of speed tests at different locations (I mean location of speed tests).

On average, I did get about 0.22 to 0.50Mbps download speed and upload stayed same around 0.23Mbps.

It was pretty zippy to do most of web browsing but you probably don’t want to upload anything over those networks.

I think in the future airline WiFi speeds should get faster and

Motorola HS1000 Dect 6.0 Digital Cordless Phone with Android OS!

Digital cordless phone market is dying as we know it but Motorola is trying to save that market by introducing Android-based digital cordless phones that let you also browse the web while watching TV on your couch.

I think this is a good metamorphosis for the cordless phones, especially with the rise of VOIP phones and usage.  Without cool features like a web browser built into the phone itself, consumers are going to have tougher time justifying the buy of cordless phones.

According to Motorola’s rep Daniel (thanks btw!), these digital cordless phones are still
