Firefox Hack – How to Browse the Web Securely and in HTTPS!

For those of you worried about web browsing security, you might want to use Firefox and this HTTPS Firefox add-on which automatically switches your browser to HTTPS whenever it’s detected.

I think this is a great idea, especially for any sites that need a login and they usually provide HTTPS versions.

Many sites on the web offer some limited support for encryption over HTTPS, but make it difficult to use. For instance, they may default to unencrypted HTTP, or fill encrypted pages with links that go back to the unencrypted site.

The HTTPS Everywhere extension fixes

OpenID Hacks – How to Setup OpenID for your Own Website!

Gina Trapani, founder of Lifehacker and one of my favorite hackers, shows you how to setup OpenID for your own websites so you can use one OpenID to sign into multiple websites.   This seems like a great idea for bloggers like myself who have at least a dozen different blog logins.

Why didn’t I think of this?

Best of all, this OpenID hack only involves just two HTML lines:

<link rel="openid2.provider" href="https://www.google.com/accounts/o8/ud?source=profiles" > <link rel="openid2.local_id" href="http://www.google.com/profiles/ginatrapani" >

Acer Chrome OS powered Device Coming at Computex 2010!

Computex 2010 is one of the biggest consumer electronics show held in Taipei, Taiwan.  (You can register here is you want to go.)  I want to go and the airfare is pretty cheap at about $1000 round-trip, non-stop from SFO to Taipei but I don’t know if it’s really worth it.

Anyways, at Computex this year, starting June 1st, Acer, the company that makes a bunch of great laptops and desktops (I am actually writing this blog post on a cheap Acer desktop.), is launching the world’s first Chrome OS device.
