Robot DIY – How to Make a Tennis Ball Robot

For those of you with a dog (or cat), you might be interested in making this tennis ball robot that randomly “rolls”, might keep your dog/cat entertained for hours non-stop for sheezy.

This Simple Bot was inspired by a work by artist James Rouvelle called Colony in which a bunch odd shaped ovals self-propel around their environment. It is my understanding that his bots were made by placing a vibrating motor freely inside of a Styrofoam ball that was then coated to give it an irregular shape. This dynamic makes his orbs fluctuate between wobbling in place and jerki

DIY Gate Controller!

Here’s a guy who’s gate controller stopped working.  Instead of spending $500 on a new one, he rigged up his own DIY gate controller.  This could work just as well for a garage door controller too I think, just strip out the electronics and put a new one.  Cool.

Skateboard Hack – How to Make a Self-Balancing Skateboard!

We’ve probably seen enough of these self-balancing skateboards so far, (I actually prefer one that doesn’t balance as I can balance myself pretty good on a skateboard, perhaps motorized skateboards are enough.) but here’s a guy who made one using the cheapest parts available. Of course, no matter how you make it, it’s not going to be cheap/easy to make a self-balancing skateboard but yo

Ethernet DIY – How to Make an Ethernet-Enabled Cat Feeder!

Personally, I have worked with many cool ethernet projects and by quick look, this one is pretty complicated yet will let you feed your cat over the internet, no matter where you are. (even if you are in China!)

The author uses a hacked Cisco router and some custom-hacked circuit to feed his cat plus added some video monitoring system:

These included i) being suitable for two cats i.e. not having to use the same bowl (or having to buy two of the same product, particularly if they’re expensive), ii) delivering fo

Servo DIY – How to Make a Servo Plotter!

For those of you circuit hackers and servo-addicts, you might be happy to learn that there’s a way to make your own servo plotter.

For this project, we wanted to build a lower cost, lower precision XY table for an installation at TeleToyland. The goal is to allow web users to draw shapes in a sand box, so we wanted a simple XY table that is easy to control from a web application. Since we already have the Web to Hobby Servo connection working well for other installations, using a hobby servo was the de
