DUI DIY – How to Avoid a DUI!

In the city Seoul, Korea where I am from, they have routine alcohol checkpoints at various different points in the city.  Basically, the cops stop everyone before permitting to pass through the alcohol checkpoints.

In San Francisco here where I live now, we don’t have checkpoints but patrol cars will pull you over on individual-basis.  We have it very lucky indeed that at least we are not forced to blow into police breathalyzers at random times when we could have had one drink too much over the limit.

I think DUI laws are sound yet they can be rather harsh to t

Solar DIY – How to Make a Cheap DIY Solar Water Heater!

video://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KOY49bH7Ocg

Energy is expensive here in Brazil so I decided to save some money by making a Solar Water Heater. In Brazil water is usually heated instantly with 5000 watts of electricity in the shower head. This is the same amount of electricity as running your microwave for 1 hour to water for you 15 minute shower, or turning on 50 one hundred watt light bulbs at the same time. Needless to say, it really adds up on your electric bill (and is also a little scary).

I wanted to do it cheaply. In Brazil copper is very expensive so I made it with

Is “Geek” Even the Right Word?

For what seems like last few years, people have started using “geek” more, especially online.  I’ve seen a handful of blogs even titled with the word “geek” in it.

Personally, I just find the word “geek” negative and offensive.  Not only is it a stereotype/derogatory for people who are super computer literate, I don’t think “geek” necessarily means “smart” and comes with more negative associations than positive ones.

As long as I can remember, I never really considered myself a “geek” of any

Solar DIY – How to Setup Your DIY Solar Panels!

With so many things happening to our world right now including global warming (it’s REAL now…) and our current consumption of earth’s limited resources, it makes complete sense to build yourself DIY solar panels so you can power your consumer electronics or even add to the energy mass.

If you have enough room for solar panels (or even on your roof top), and you have some skills with electricity/making, I highly suggest you to try experimenting with solar power on your own. (but d

[How Do They] Make Jet Engines?

You’ve probably wondered why people put jet engines on their already-too-fast sports cars but then again, there’s some fun to challenging the limits of physics and human knowledge.

In this blog post, let’s take a look at how they actually make jet engines, not just how to make a jet engine.

Here’s a video of how they make jet engines at Rolls Royce:

[How Do They] Make Scuba Oxygen Tanks?

If you always wonders how they made oxygen tanks for scuba diving, you might want to see this great video that details the process of making real scuba tanks:

And of course, don’t attempt to make your own scuba tanks as suggested here on Yahoo Answers:

A SCUBA tank is what’s called “Life Support Equipment”. It’s called that for a reason.

People die doing what you’re suggesting. Do

Ethernet DIY – How to Make an Ethernet-Enabled Cat Feeder!

Personally, I have worked with many cool ethernet projects and by quick look, this one is pretty complicated yet will let you feed your cat over the internet, no matter where you are. (even if you are in China!)

The author uses a hacked Cisco router and some custom-hacked circuit to feed his cat plus added some video monitoring system:

These included i) being suitable for two cats i.e. not having to use the same bowl (or having to buy two of the same product, particularly if they’re expensive),
