Flying DIY – How to Beat Jetlag!

I used to fly a lot between Seoul, Korea and San Francisco so I know what it means to “jetlag”.  It’s a good 10-12 hour flight and I usually do couple things to help myself not become a victim to jetlag.

Some of these I read in magazine and some I devised myself:

If you are going to be landing near morning or afternoon, make sure you get some sleep.  I even advise to actually taking sleeping pills on the plane so you literally force yourself to sleep.  This way, you will still be a bit fresh and be able to stay awake until night falls.  The first day is

Virgin Airlines WiFi Speed Test!

As promised before my venture at CES 2010, I did do a bunch of speed tests on my flight from San Francisco to Las Vegas.  It was a rather short flight of one and a half hours but it was enough time for me to do a bunch of speed tests at different locations (I mean location of speed tests).

On average, I did get about 0.22 to 0.50Mbps download speed and upload stayed same around 0.23Mbps.

It was pretty zippy to do most of web browsing but you probably don’t want to upload anything over those networks.

I think in the future airline WiFi speeds should get faster and

Flight School For UAVs!

For those of you who wanted to be a pilot but don’t want to risk getting shot down by the enemy while in flight, you might be surprised to hear that University of North Dakota is offering flight schools for UAVs.  I think this is actually a great idea for future combats, lessening human casualties. (at least for our side)

No matter what though, I am against wars, I think killing people is bad.

The University of North Dakota is offering the world’s first bachelor’s deg

Airplane Hack – How to Temporarily Fix an Airplane with Duct Tape!

One of my best friends and my college freshmen roommate was a redneck guy from Northern California, he has repeatedly told me that duct tape can fix almost everything including relationships.

Well, I can’t believe it, but this guy’s plane got chewed up like a ball of paper by a Grizzly Bear in Alaska then he flew off back up with some duct tape as temporary fix.  WOW, duct tape can save lives, make sure you note this if you own a plane.

The fishy aroma attracted a passing grizzly bear who, clearly frustrated at not being able to see the lovely “noms” i

DIY – How to Make an Alti-Variometer!

Here’s a cool DIY tool for para-gliders and alike, learn how to make an Alti-Variometer.  I’ve actually seen a para-glider who crashed into a tree by the highway the other week.  If he had landed on the highway, I am sure he could have easily crashed onto on-coming cars.  Perhaps this Alti-variometer could have prevented him going awry in the first place.

[Vlad-Andre] used some of his free time to build an alti-variometer. He does some para-gliding near restricted air space and wanted a backup altitude warning th

Helicopter DIY – How to Land a Helicopter!

If for some reason your pilot dies while you are on a helicopter, my best suggestion is to equip yourself with a parachute beforedhand and simply jump out if that happens.  For those of you not as smart on planning for the worst, WonderHowTo has a great guide on “somehow” landing the helicopter yourself.

What is Sonic Boom?

Today, I was just surfing around the web and found “Sonic Boom”!

What is it?

It’s when the aircraft goes faster than the speed of sound and creates water vapors basically or according to Wikipedia:

When an object passes through the air, it creates a series of pressure waves in front of it and behind it, similar to the bow and stern waves created by a boat. These waves travel at the speed of sound, and as the speed of the object increases, the waves are forced together, or compressed
