World’s Largest Man-made Tornado!

video://www.youtube.com/watch?v=79XVdJRKhE0

Mercedez Benz museum in Stuttgart, Germany apparently has the world’s largest man-made tornado that’s hiding from the public. Apparently, this man-made tornado isn’t to wow people but to be able to clean the museum’s air by pulling all the smoke out to the main vents. Whatever reason they made it for, it’s still cool, much bigger than the

Is This World’s Smallest Valentine’s Heart?

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4023/4356555821_f71aa28fb1.jpg

Check out what the mad scientists made, a Valentine’s heart measuring only 8 nano-meters. The only sad part, you can’t see it with your naked human eye, a special microscope must be used.

Sadly, the bright, beautiful palladium Valentine will not be given to a special lady. Being only 8 nanometers in size, it can’t be seen by the human eye, and cannot even be relied upon to stay in the smallest ring setting. But we can all admire the wonderful high-angle, very high-power shot of the world&#

Tesla Coil Hack – How to Make Tesla Coil with Bank of Capactors!

Here’s a rather fascinating hack that involves using large capacitors in series to power the tesla coil.  The result?  Indeed rather amazing, watch video below to enjoy sparks!

I need a 3 Turn coil (110mm) with resonant freq fo=235,6kHz, calculations tell me I need a 240nf capacitor bank. Usually a capacitor bank consist of a series/parallel circuit combination and requires extra wire length and space. This will change the inductance of the circuit and th

Tornado DIY – How to Build a Tornado Machine!

http://www.weatherscapes.com/Graphics/Techniques/Tornado_machine/vortex.jpg

I remember first encountering a Tornado machine at SF Exploratorium couple month back (You can see it in my YouTube video here), but it would be helluva nicer to actually build one yourself for self-amusement.  This tutorial will certainly get you started so check it out.

Can you build this? Yes! However, the design of this machine is more elaborate than it would need to be to just produce a vortex – it is meant to be put in your living room or somewhere else that requires it to look nice. If

Flying DIY – How to Beat Jetlag!

I used to fly a lot between Seoul, Korea and San Francisco so I know what it means to “jetlag”.  It’s a good 10-12 hour flight and I usually do couple things to help myself not become a victim to jetlag.

Some of these I read in magazine and some I devised myself:

If you are going to be landing near morning or afternoon, make sure you get some sleep.  I even advise to actually taking sleeping pills on the plane so you literally force yourself to sleep.  This way, you will still be a bit fresh and be able to stay awake until night falls.  The first day is

World’s Largest Man-made Crater!

I guess Sudan nuclear testing done in Nevada in the 60s is still the world’s largest man-made crater.  Not sure if it’s even a smart idea to go there now due to all that radioactive stuff but you can at least enjoy some photos from there.  God, people were dumb back in the 60s, shooting nuclear weapons in-land without knowing the consequences.  I am sure you can find some radioactive plants and animals t

Thought To Speech Machine! [BRAIN]

Scientists have been working on a brain translation machine that would possibly allow thought-to-speech possible.  Of course, this means that in the future, we can possibly keep the brain alive even if the human body is dead, sorta like science fiction.

By implanting an electrode into the brain of a person with locked-in syndrome, scientists have demonstrated how to wirelessly transmit neural signals to a speech synthesizer. The “thought-to-speech” process takes about 50 milliseconds &#
