DIY iPod Touch Remote-Controlled GTO!

Here’s a guy who hacked his GTO and iPod Touch to create a DIY iPod Touch remote control for his car.  Pretty cool stuff I’d say, it shouldn’t be long before cars and smartphones merge.

Following the key-fob he created a control system using a 2.4gHz cell phone which used the speed-dial to create timed events like putting up the top and rolling up the windows. The next upgrade was voice control, using a Bluetooth unit tied to a cell phone to create complete voice control over the car. All of that still works, but his latest — and coolest upgrade yet — u

How to Avoid Speed Traps on Your iPhone, Android or Blackberry!

I’ve mentioned PhantonAlert before, a service that lets you avoid speed traps. Well, here’s another service that’s going to help you avoid speed traps, Trapster.com. There’s an app for almost every smartphone including the iPhone, Android, or Blackberry so try it out and let me know if it does indeed work well.

As for me, I will keep relying on my old-school “magical” feel of the roads. I can see a cop a mile away when I am driving, call it &

Auto DIY – How to Make LED Headlights for your Car!

My friends have been asking me how to make LED headlights ever since they found out I can hack up some electronic stuff.  Well, LEDs are pretty easy to me since I’ve dealt with them a lot but I won’t tell you how to do it, there’s a guy who made an instructable for that.

The first image shows how things look right now: two upper ‘edge’ arrays, each with 21 5mm LED (pointed forward, 5 degrees down and 5 degrees outwards), a central array of 60 LEDs at top density (pointed straight forward, replacing the twelve LED array around the Hyundai symbol

Car DIY – How to Make a Smartphone Car Mount!

Here’s a great way to make a car-mount for your smartphone such as an iPhone, Nexus One, or even a Palm Pre.  I think this is the best one I’ve seen so far that makes use of cheap PVC pipes and craft foam.  That’s all there is to it!

(I am making one of these soon for my new Nexus One, which btw does navigation flawless, I mean flawless really!)

Luckily for me, the original (super boxy) XB has an assortment of odd “spaces” in the dash.  These make a perfect place to attach a rock solid, quick and dirty $2 mount that’ll take less t

GSM Hack – How to Make GSM Car Starter!

Here’s a guy who put together a cheap cellphone and GSM-enabled relay to make a GSM car starter, meaning he can start his car by calling a number.  The creater used GSM relay unit which says it cost him $199 but I think if you buy the GSM unit and relay separately, he could have saved even more money.  (I’ve done a similar project here, all you would have to do is add a relay to that and it would be a GSM relay unit btw.  That one you c

Auto DIY – How to Make an Intake for Your Car!

Most of you hot rodders know that stock intake is cause of many power losses, especially the more horsepower your car has in stock condition, the more horsepower you lose when you first buy the car.

Well, there’s a ton of aftermarket intake you can buy but you can also make your own using pipes and pipe connectors (Arr…I forgot what these are called, see pics).

My friend is really good at this, turning $20 of Home Depot pipes and a K & N filter to make his own custom intake for cars.   The performance benefit you get from this hack job versus ones you

Auto DIY – How to Turn Your Car into a Snow Car!

Remember I had a blog post about the Subaru Trax Si, perhaps the fastest Snow car in the world?  Well it turns out that the company Mattracks actually makes the rubber track-conversion system for 4×4 vehicles, meaning Ken Block’s car isn’t nothing more than a Subarbu with a track-conversion system. (Sorry Ken!)

With these rubber track-conversion systems from Mattracks (although they are going to take a big bite out of your wallet, th

Ford will be Adding WiFi with Broadband USB Add-on Capability to its SYNC Mobile System!

Ford will become the first car manufacturer to have WiFi on-board except with a twist, users can simply plug-in their Verizon or Sprint USB Broadband dongle to share internet via in-car WiFi with others (or just for yourself).

I think this is a much better idea than trying to sell in-car internet services through proprietary technology as no one will buy that plus a a USB broadband dongle can be carried off the car.

For one, I already own 2 USB Broadband cards, Ford will make consumers like me to get the car and improve my WiFi experience in the car.

I have to a

Someone Broke Into My Car! – And How to Get Your Auto Window Replaced!

Well, today, someone broke into my car, breaking the driver side window.  Last time I got jacked was when my friend left his digital camera in the back seat.  Well, this time the jacker stole my Duracell Inverter.

But I am happy because they didn’t touch my golf clubs and my skateboard in the trunk, THAT would have driven me MAD.

Btw, did you know that you can call an auto window replacement company t
