Yelp’s DIY iPad-Controlled Beer Keg!

video://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BwVoir5HSo4&feature=player_embedded

These guys over at Yelp.com crack me up, they just built this awesome DIY iPad-controlled beer keg that keeps track of everyone who drank beer and also lets each Yelper to rate the beer.

To use, you will need an RFID card that will allow you to drink the beer.  That’s not all though, there’s also a desktop module that let you check the status of the keg (yup, so they never go dry).

Really a cool project they did here, now everyone should go work at Yelp.

DIY 80s TV iPad Dock!

Sometimes it makes perfect sense to blend in function and retro-style into one such as this DIY 80s TV iPad Dock.

Typically, though, the nostalgia that runs through Damon’s work can be attributed not to kitsch but to sentiment, which, he says, “I know is a bad word for most designers.” But he’s constantly thinking about how a product can connect to a consumer on an emotional level, which is in part what’s made his work so successful. The iPad dock was inspired by his love for outdated home appliances; another piece he made for his family, a Corian fruit bowl, was in

Best Buy Launching an Android Tablet! [Rumor]

It seems pretty clear now virtually everyone including Samsung, LG, Archos, and even BestBuy are launching their own branded Android tablets like real soon, perhaps as early as end of this year.

BestBuy CTO has just “tweeted” some early photos of their RocketFish branded BestBuy Android Tablet.

There’s no actual word on whether Android will be used on the tablet but we have a good gut feeling Android is the choice among tablet makers these days as growth of Android has been overwhelming and we see no reasons why BestBuy would go with something else like a Palm We

iPhone/iPod/iPad Charging Circuit!

Designing your own charging circuit for the iPhone, iPod, or iPad?  Well, Lady Ada has figured out that you need certain resistor values and more current than normally needed for your iDevices to charge correctly.

We did some experimenting (see the video up top) and determined that in fact the different voltages/resistances did effect the charging rates! Using the 2.8V&2.0V setup resulted in a 1 Amp charge rate and the 2.0V&2.0V setup resulted in a 500mA charge rate.

This made us very happy, because 500mA is within the capability of the MintyBoost chip. We red

South Korean Company LG, “Apple May Delay iPads”

Ironically only a day after I posted the South Koreans are practically going mad because they can’t get their hands on the latest iPhone 4, the South Korean company LG who supplies displays for iPads, announces they simply cannot keep up with iPad demands.

Of course, this probably has nothing to do with the fact that most South Koreans are “frustrated” at Apple for treating them like a 3rd world country, but you have to admit it’s ironic that this happene
