Once upon a time in my life, I used to be all crazy about saxophone and jazz and yes, I used to play some blues on my alto sax too. I loved jazz because of its improvisation on solos, which is a spontaneous way to create music on the go.
Anyways, here’s my top 5 picks for best Jazz musicians, I can whistle most of them by heart. (Sorry, I am a bit biased towards saxophonists.)
#1 Ornithology by Charlie Parker – I think this one song is probably the best jazz of all time. Many people don’t get it but I used to spend months on trying to play this very song, it’s near impossible of course. My favorite jazz sax song of all time.
#2 Blue Train – John Coltrane – I love listening to John Coltrane too. Blue Train is a good example of how you should play jazz on a saxophone.
#3 Mercy, mercy, mercy – Cannonball Adderly – This song is also my favorite all time, I like how Cannoball’s music is a bit slower yet make you relaxed.
#4 Watermelon Man by Herbie Hancock – This is a really, great slow song.
#5 Salted Peanuts by Dizzie Gillespie – Dizzie has the most unorthodox method of playing the trumpet yet he’s probably the best jazz trumpeter in the world in my mind.
P.S. This is “my list” of top jazz musicians, but I think it’s a pretty good one.
