Recently, I had the pleasure of helping a friend by waiting for PG&E at his house, where there was no gas or electricity. Well, I waited all day from 8AM to 8PM, 12 hours and PG&E still didn’t show up.
But the good thing was, I was able to last the full 12 hours on batteries and all the gadgets I own have paid off.
For laptop, I brought my ASUS UL30Vt-x1, which lasts 6 hours on its “battery saving mode”. After my ASUS gave up on me around 2PM, I got on my ASUS Eee PC 1000HE netbook, which can easily get additional 10 hours on “battery saving mode”.
For internet, I used my Droid 2 to tether (free) on Verizon’s network, a Nexus One to stream music to my Motorola S9 stereo bluetooth headset, and of course I brought some spare phones like my Palm Pre just in case and HTC Evo 4G for taking voice calls so it won’t interrupt tethering on my tethering smartphones. Gladly, I didn’t have to worry about battery life on the smartphones as my car was nearby and I could re-charge the phones while swapping with other phones. But I think I could have gone all day without re-charging as each phone lasted me a good 6 hours while tethering.
Anyways, just wanted to tell you that I did in fact test out all my long-lasting laptop/netbook and Android smartphones on a full day outing with just batteries.
