Windows 7 Hack – How to Make Your External Hard Drive Faster with Write Cache!
The other day, I literally “doubled/tripled” my external USB hard drive’s transfer speeds from just around 30Mb/s to near 100Mb/s. By default, write caching is turned off on external hard drives (for USB), if you turn it on, you will be able to take advantage of write cache that allows you to make faster writes. Of course, don’t forget, you will need to use the “Safely Remove Hardware” icon when you remove your external hard drive. 2-3 times faster performance is definitely worth doing this.
