Xbee is an embedded wireless module that can easily be hacked to do many things including being used as a wireless DSLR flash.
This guy’s circuit is rather simple and if you’ve got some soldering skills, I don’t see why not you can make a DSLR flash on a budget rather than spend hundreds of dollars on retail products.
The idea is really simple- just configure the xBees in direct pin mode (see Rob Faludi’s example, my notes are long gone), and hook them up to the flash sync ports on the camera and flash. Using these transceivers, I am able to reliably pull 1/120th of a second sync speed (probably fine for studio, but not daylight), with an excellent range (something like 1/8th mile outdoors).
