Ubuntu DIY – How to Install BitTorrent on Ubuntu!

I finally got Ubuntu running on all of my Windows 7 desktops and laptops under VirtualBox.   Anyways, it’s a good idea to run torrent downloads on linux because I simply think it’s a safer environment as sometimes you can download stuff you don’t want to expose your Windows computer to.

Besides that, I love using Ubuntu for all my other stuff like SSH or playing with code.

Anyways, today I was installing BitTorrent client on my Ubuntu, here’s the steps you need to take to install it too.

First, add “universe” to your sources list by first editing the /etc/apt/sources.list repository file.

sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

Uncomment the two #s you see for universe and multiverse, this will allow you to install basically more stuff for your Ubuntu.

Next, do an apt-get install command for bittorrent and install it.
sudo apt-get install bittorrent

Next, do an apt-get install for bittornado-gui, this you will need so you have a nice GUI interface for your bittorrent.
sudo apt-get install bittornado-gui

OR, you can also use Transmission client, which I believe comes as default with Ubuntu.
