Samsung Wave (Bada) Review!

Seriously, I’ve been hearing all about the Latest Samsung Wave phone that has a Badu operating system.   Okay, let me just get on with it, give you some details on the bad boy from Korea.

Oh yeah, let me add that “bada” means “ocean” in Korean, they should really have named it Samsung “Ocean”, not “Wave”, perhaps a mis-translation along the way.   Then again, it makes a bit of sense if you name the phone “wave” and the OS “ocean”, obviously they can’t all be the same.

The social aspects of this Samsung Wave seem to be in line with the rest of the new phones that came out in the recent months like the Motorola Droid or Nexus One.

I’ve also tried many of Samsung’s latest phones at CES 2010 this year including the new Samsung Galaxy that runs Google’s Andoroid.

I am afraid to say that Samsung is actually a bit behind in this smartphone game as for software and I don’t know how Bada would be received here in the U.S.  I am sure fans in Korea are all willing to try a new OS but even as a person who loves Samsung cellpones, Samsung really needs to get on with fully Andoiding all their cellphones.

What I really was impressed with my recent Google Nexus One isn’t its superior hardware performance over iPhone 3Gs with a 1 Ghz dragon processor, it’s how many complements I have got on the phone.  Recently, I was hanging out with my friends for Super Bowl party, friends’ birthdays and I have to say, everyone was rather overly-impressed with my first official Google-Google-branded smartphone ever.

One thing I notice over time isn’t how great my Nexus One performs (although it does things very very quickly) but the form factor.  With a slimmer design than iPhone 3Gs with hardware superior to it, it’s really work of an art even it’s so slim that it’s hard for me to hold to tweet while falling asleep.

Well, I am gettin’ a bit long here but the bottomline is that Samsung will have to keep trying harder, especially in the software arena, where things need to be up to par with the rest of the world.

But I think it won’t be long before Samsung starts coming up with some beautiful Android phones.  In fact, many of my friends in Korea are telling me that exactly.

Samsung Wave Specs:

  • 3.3″ Super AMOLED display, 800×480
  • 1Ghz CPU, 2GB of internal memory + microSDHC slot
  • GSM/HSDPA 3.6Mbps (900/1200Mhz) + AGPS + Bluetooth 3.0 + WIFI G/N
  • 5 Megapixel Digital Camera
  • TouchWiz 3.0 user interface
  • Samsung Apps, store
  • Support for Exchange
  • HD video decoding (xvid, divx 720p) and encoding
  • FM Radio, including recording
  • 3.5mm audio connector
  • Voice commands
  • 118 x 56 x 10.9mm
  • 1500 mAh battery
  • Availability: Mai 2010 in Europe

The specs are pretty much identical to the new Nexus One except added HD video decoding, and FM radio.  I would have to say Samsung can do better, they should do better.  Be on the lookout for their next phone, this simply ain’t it yet.

P.S.  One more note, all Samsung phones you actually see outside South Korea are usually 2 years old, this Bada OS probably isn’t even new, just the English version is.   Just a thought from an insider.

It is really unfortunate that it seems to be a person who reviewed this has never been used Samsung Wave. I used both Nexus One and Samsung Wave. Nexus One is one of the nut phone available in market with big name. From the display to performance, it is really far behind comparatively to Wave. Samsung Wave is really a user friendly phone in all the aspects.
