Well, Google Operating System blog shows the different modes you can use to access GMail when it’s down.
These are of course methods that would ultimately require that GMail servers are running but there are times when you will need hard copies of your GMail.
To do that, I think the best way is to have a separate domain name (such as Zedomax.com) and use the POP service to store your old e-mails. (in Outlook or any free e-mail client) At least that way, you can have access to your e-mails even when all those methods don’t work.
But my favorite among the list is the iPhone mode, it’s kinda fun to browse in smaller spaces.
