DLP TV HACK – How to Reset Your Samsung DLP TV Lamp Hours Setting!

Well, today, my 42″ Samsung DLP TV I bought in 2005 broke down on me.  The only thing I got from the TV was a Lamp LED going on and off.

So I figured that it was time for the Lamp to be swapped out for a new one.

Before doing that, I ran into this blog posts about how to reset the Lamp hour setting on the Samsung DLP TV.

Once I resetted the Lamp hour, my TV started working again!  Yey, I guess the manufacturer, Samsung, put an hourly limit on the lamp so you replace the lamp but hey, why replace it until it’s truly broken?

Here’s the simple instructions on how to reset that lamp hour setting and make your DLP TV lamp last longer:

Mute + 1 + 8 + 2 + Power.

Your TV set should now say “Loading Factory”.

Browse down to “Option” then press Enter (or the right cursor button).

So, if the TV wasn’t working, how were you able to see the screen to reset the bulb? That doesn’t make sense to me.

My TV also stopped working, because the bulb was blown. I replaced the bulb and was then able to see the screen. Then I used your tip above to reset the counter for the bulb. Mute + 1+ 8+ 2 + Power. But, the counter didn’t stop the TV from working and I could not have accessed the the tech screen without the bulb working.

Yes, you have to replace your TV bulb first of course.

My bulb was cracked– second replacement in 18 months and after replacing the bulb worked once, initial test and then it would not not come on again just the flashing timer light and a constant fan cycle on and off—- Ballast?

I have an HLN507w bought in 2002 late. Original bulb blew Jan 21,2009. 10,763 hours.

Mine didn’t work either. By didn’t work I mean it was shutting itself off constantly but I could get to the settings. After I reset it like they talked about above, it worked fine. I still got the bulb from the warranty thought. Haha. Screw circuit city.

I smell something rotten in Denmark. If your bulb was out how did you manage to reset the bulb-hours using the TV's user menu?

I seriously doubt Samsung turns the lamp off at a preset hourly use. My HLN507W shows 20,000 lamp-hours in the user menu (Ive had two bulbs, I replaced the first after 10,000 hours as a precaution before it failed and keep it as a back-up bulb.)

The reason to replace an old bulb is because it gets dimmer with age. Replacing an old bulb brightens the picture considerably.

If your bulb was out how did you manage to reset the bulb-hours using the TV's user menu? If you put the old bulb back in after installing a new one and it worked it makes more sense to think that there was simply a bad connection rather than a secret plot by Samsung. Occam's Razor.

I seriously doubt Samsung turns the lamp off at a preset hourly use. My HLN507W shows 20,000 lamp-hours in the user menu. I replaced the original bulb at 10,000 hours (while it was still good) and did not reset the lamp-hours. Two bulbs, each with over 10,000 hours tells me there is no Samsung self-destruct.

He said the lamp light was blinking on and off. It does so before the bulb goes out. It is a warning. My TV did not stop working , it just cut off and I cut it back on. It has done that before. One time I cut the heat vent off that was above it and it stopped cutting off. Now it cut off once and I cut it back on. I will do the rewet before it gets worse.

I ( a 66 year old female) replaced the bulb. But, nothing happens. What is wrong? There is sound, but no picture.

I just received a replacement lamp for my Samsung DLP TV. My question is: After I replace the bulb, do I turn the TV on to see if it works or do I reset the hours first? Is there anything else I should know before attempting this? Thanks for your help.

  11. Unxpekted says:

Im pretty sure you dont need to reset the hours. Just make sure the TVs completely shut down, replace, and power back on after a few minutes.

I believe you reset it after, if I remember correctly, hope that helps!

I just replaced the bulb a few months ago and it has already gone out, and the bulb looks fine. I just got ANOTHER bulb so now Im going to reset it every time. Seems dumb to have to reset the timer everytime you switch bulbs but I learned my lesson the hard way. I wonder if I can still use my last bulb since it looks like nothing is wrong with it.

I have the same problem. Replaced the bulb and it will power on when plugged into the outlet, however, we can hear the fan and the color wheel spin. Powers off by itself, and powers back on. Continues this cycle for about 2 mins then powers off completely. We have to unplug and replug to get it started again.
    Any suggestions.
