Wow, this is somethin’ I’ve always wanted to make with the free laser Dragonlasers sent me a long time ago…

But here it is! Looks like he’s from the UK. 🙂

P.S. Remember we ARE giving out a FREE Dragon Laser to the top commentator this month.  So make sure to participate.  Looks like Brian is going to get it at this rate. 🙂

  1. That’s pretty pimp but I don’t think I could pull it off just from watching the video.

One thing i always like to do with lasers is make a cheap and easy laser show that responds to music…

hmmmmm….. As a matter of fact…. i think ill blog a tutorial about that 🙂
yeah, ill do that….. ill post here again after i make it in a while

and hey! if i win that laser, ill give you a shout-out, haha

  3. max says:

    sure, let me know~

  4. girrrrrrr2 says:

i wonder how strong is that laser… is it strong enough to see the beam??? if so i will definately be making this… but with a little mod to make it show a wider “show”… this is if i win it…

  5. Brian Gaut says:

You should be able to see if if its pointing in your general direction…. even better if its dark out

Hi Guys, I see you have picked up on my video, 🙂 I can answer a few questions for you.

The greenie is 5mw and at night as a pointer you can see the beam, when projecting you cant as it is moving so fast. If it were replaced by a 30mw who knows.

How wide a view do you want, I can easily cover tyhe side of my house with the projection from around 20ft.

I am working on a music operated one as we speak, I am also experimenting with a liquid sky with fog in the same sort of package.

    Hope that helps.

    Regards rog8811

Oh cool… thanks for answering the questions! 🙂

  8. girrrrrrr2 says:

    ok thx man…

  9. Timelord says:

Great tutorial mate you make it look very simple and easy to make. Keep the good work up…

  10. Rob says:

Excellent tutorial! I made something similar to this but I never thought of having a speed controller. Maybe I will try that, but well done!

  11. yew.sir-name says:

If you installed a tiny 3v red laser module (like one out of a laser level or cheap gun sight) inside the box, you could pretty much mount this thing anywhere using 3m pads. plus if the red was strong enough and lined up with the green it would make for a sweet yellow lasershow.

incorporate a cheap pulse/strobe circut to the red (like one out of a flashing led lighter or something) and it would surely be a unique ‘party in your pocket’

Hey, Rog – good to see your tutorial over here ! Taht is a REALLY nice piece of work you did ! It goes to show you that a little bit of ingenuity goes a long way ! I would love to find some motors such as those over here Stateside, but have had no luck as of yet 🙁 The project box is the PERFECT size – I cannot believe how tiny you have made it ! A projecter like that really shows off the tremendous capabilities of a green laser – the intense beam, and the pointer you are using is a really nice one for it – I suppose if you wanted to, you could modify the box a LITTLE bit for a larger laser ? Like say, the Hulk ? Can you IMAGINE the beam coming out of that using a Hulk ? WOW !!! Anyways, GREAT work – The tutorial is mind boggling, you make it look soooo simple ! Keep up the great work, mate !

Great video! I was able to construct my own projector following your tutorial in just over 2 hours. After some minor adjustments, it works great! I tried it first with my 35mw Dragonlasers Viiper in a darkened warehouse and it was fantastic! Then I put in my 125mw Viiper, and it lit up the entire place brighter than the lighting does! Then I took it outside (in daylight) and tried it against a large wall. People stopped in their tracks as they looked in amazement! It is as if the lasers are more powerful with this little machine, and I made it myself, (with a little help, of course!)

My 35mw was a gift, one of the best I’ve ever received. The 125mw was perhaps the best $300 I have ever spent, even more so now that I have my very own projector!

Thank you Zedomax and thank you too, Dragonlasers!

  14. max says:

    Wow Dave,
I am glad it worked out for ya, great job!

Maybe you can throw a video of yours working on youtube. I will post it~ 🙂

  15. Daedal says:

Make it, sell it, patent the design… LOL

Do you think WL would like it if you used one of their lasers? They’d probably get angry at why didn’t give them credit and would have 50 bots spamming this place in no time ;D

Very nicely done rog, and always a pleasure to see another successful and genius laser project as such.

    Thank you for sharing it;
    DDL

  16. Carl says:

I have all the gear to make one of these apart from the lazer.

It can be quite easy to do.

    A thought:-

use 2 lazers 1 green and 1 red, you can make it mix the 2 colours.

In fact I am not going to say much else just at the moment, but if I was to win this “Dragon 95mW Viper Green Laser” I would put a video together and show some projects that you can do !

  17. rog8811 says:

Hi all, I am glad I have sparked your interest, this is a fun but relativly simple project, the output of which has impressed everyone who has seen it in the flesh. I wish you luck with combining colours, I am always looking to improve my designs, watch this ( and other 🙂 ) space.

  18. Brian Gaut says:

Max, if i dont win your laser, im totally buying me one…. just so i can do this, haha
I want to take it to the movie theater and put it on the screen before the movie comes on…. lol, that would be cool to hear all at once the whole thearter say “woah” 🙂

  19. rog8811 says:

@ Brian Gaut, don’t sit too near the back of the cinema, the image will be too big for the screen 🙂

    Regards rog8811

  20. Raul says:

that is great! does it matter what mW power the laser is ?

  21. Carl says:

If I win the lazer I am going to make this and modify it and post the video’s here for all to see. Of course giving the origional creator a mention and Dragon lazers with thanks to zedomax

  22. girrrrrrr2 says:

if i win i will show it off and tell everyone about this site… like i alreadyhavent… with your latest post…http://zedomax.com/blog/2007/08/24/my-ms-outlook-screen/#comment-282751
    that is so funny!!!

  23. Carl says:

I have brought people to this site. Even after the competition is over I will still be posting here.

  24. girrrrrrr2 says:

y ai will still post also… but not at a rate of 100-200 a day… but would nt this be cool if you got a bunck of teh lazers… one of each color(red blue orange green and purple…) and made one of these for each and made each point at about the same spot so each one will be visiable but you get that cool rainbow affect…

  25. Izl says:

    That looks amazing, brilliant idea

  26. girrrrrrr2 says:

yeah… i am gonna winb it with my green viper laser…

  27. mike says:

where can i pick up this project box? i must not be spelling the name right or something because i can’t seem to find it anywhere.

  28. rog8811 says:

@ Mike Radio spares number 504-710, I am not sure if it is current as I just had them knocking around.

If it helps sizes are 55mm square (ext) X 41mm High

    Regards rog8811

  29. Blackari says:

wow. just. wow. i can. umm.. take apart my miniature laser i got from wal-mart and put it back together again. if i win though, i definetly would take the time to learn this..

it’d be so fun to put in a movie theather.. or before a teacher gives there presentation. or even when im having a huge Xbox party on the projector screen and all of a sudden, MasterChief sees a bunch of green lines in his screen. HEAD SHOT! lol! great stuff

  30. rog8811 says:

I know this is an old thread but I thought it worth updating to say I will be posting a new video on metacafe soon, I have now built a handheld 7 colour, (and that includes white), spiro projector.
Look out for it 🙂 info here http://www.laserpointerforums.com/forums/YaBB.pl?num=1229256424
