brendon – The “lock” you’re referring to is an icon indicating the router is secured with some type of encryption. Unless the owner was stupid enough to use the same word for both the router’s SSID (broadcast name) and security passphrase, no.
UPDATE: I’ve been testing this hack and it works. But for injecting packets into the network, you really need to use a Linux OS or Mac OS. If anyone got any better tricks for Windows users, let us know!

to everyone here who doesn;t understand, aircrack does work for windows and must be run with dos. i dont know how good it is with wpa, but it works with wep secured networks. also, READ THE TUTORIAL before you use it. as air0based said, you can find the tutorials at http://en.airdump.net/.

Is aircrack can be use to crack wpa password? and can it be supported by window vista?
I think so… vista is the worst operating system to crack anything by the way, i recommend at least XP and Linux preferrable.

This is for all the ppl who do not know how to install aicrack and all the other wep/wpa cracking stuff like aireplay, airoscript. all you need to do is download backtrack 3 beta here–>> http://www.remote-exploit.org/backtrack_download.html this is a bootable disc which you burn as an image file and it takes ruffly 8 mins to crack a wireless network even for a noob like me trying it for the first time i’ve tried all other solution on how to get wpa wep and you dont have to install the disk for it to work it works from the disc its simple and easy to use.

If you live in a densely populated area theres a decent chance that you won’t even need to crack the protection cuz chances are theres at least one moron in range that didn’t bother to enable the protection option on his router. WHen I set my ps3 up it detected about 12 hotspots and of the 11 that weren’t mine only 2 of them had WEP or WPA enabled COMPUTER STUPID NEIGHBORS FTW!! lol
My friend did have to crack into someones connection after he moved so he could play online before he got his cable and internet setup. He didn’t have any trouble but I don’t think he used this prog to do it so there ARE alternatives out there. Unfortunately I can’t list any myself and I don’t recall what he used
haha please teach me how to hack from windows, i really have fun with these nobs haking my honeypot and then me hacking them back once theire connected to my evil net, because windows really is dumb and more over the users who “attack” from it not even having their updates to day, oh but what a world would be without them for others to have fun on 🙂

Mate if you cant work out winzip or burn an iso image, then quit now! You will never be able to even look at, let alone use backtrack.
You need to burn the iso to CD. You have downloaded an IMAGE file!

so i got backtrack the iso.. i also have magicdisc and i mounted backtrack to the drive. so it thinks there is a cd of backtrack in a fakedrive. but i dont understand it. does it work with vista? laughingman4uATyahoo
Burn backtrack on the CD, boot from cd, back track is the operating system modified for hack. No DOES NOT WORK WITH WISTA (I think only work with win95-sp3 😀 ).And I’m wondering how U will use it if U ask this (does it work with vista?)… ccc .
