Dell Ubuntu

Dell Ubuntu

Cool, Dell is going to be supporting Ubuntu! This is a sign that Linux and open source movement are taking over the world soon not to mention the cool open source CMS softwares like Wordpress, Joomla, Pligg, etc…etc…  This is a surprise from the company that announced to not ship their products with Linux in the past.

Ever since we heard that Dell would ship computers with Linux pre-installed, we wondered which flavor it would be. It doesn’t really come as a surprise that it will be Ubuntu, which Michael Dell uses it on his home laptop.

The official announcement is expected anytime now, but we got the heads up from Ubuntu contributor Fabián Rodríguez. His post is down (thanks, Digg) but can be seen on Dugg Mirror.

Wind Power from Highways

Wind Power from Highways

Wind Power from Highways2

Here’s a great concept for re-using the wind generated from cars racing on the highways. Great idea! Save earth and peace!

Average vehicle speeds on the valley highways are approximately 70 mph. Using average annual wind speeds of 10 mph as a baseline, each single wind turbine will produce 9,600KwH of energy, annually (enough to fully power my 700 s.f. apartment). This power production estimate will increase exponentially with an increase in wind turbulence speed. I believe that the wind stream created over the freeways by our primary mode of transportation will create an average annual wind speed well beyond the baseline of 10 mph.

Posted in Consumer, Cool, Earth, Educational, Energy, Gadgets, Industrial by max on the May 2nd, 2007 at 5:17 am

Solar Hot Water

Check out this site for information on installation and the works behind solar hot water heaters that might actually save you big bucks and save the earth at the same time.

Some of the key benifits:

  • Eliminate 80 to 95% of your water heating bill.
  • Constantly increase savings in a non-taxable income.
  • Your home’s equity value increases with your investment.
  • Income generator that keeps producing a positive non-taxable cash flow to you.
  • Uses non-polluting free solar energy.
  • Doubles the amount of hot water available.

Yeah, if you live in California or any of the south-west states, go get it and start savin’

09 F9 11 02 T-Shirt

Yay, let’s get on the band wagon for free HD-DVDs. Will we get some notices soon?

Did you know that you could get into really big trouble if you post the code 09 F9 11 02 on your website ? It is very likely that a takedown notice will be send to the owner of the website as soon as the RIAA, the AACS or some of their lawyers find your website. You might be wondering why they are making such a big deal about this code 9D 74 E3 5B D8 41 56 C5 which only some users might identify as the code to rule them all.. aka the processing key that unlocks the content of every HD-DVD available up to this point.

Posted in Consumer, Cool, Gadgets by max on the May 1st, 2007 at 7:45 pm

American Airlines First Class gets PMP

Cool, AA customers will now get PMP to play with on first class and business class. Too bad I will never be able to afford first class yet… but it’s great!

American Airlines is expanding video and audio entertainment options for its passengers in First and Business Class on transcontinental flights beginning May 1. American is introducing personal entertainment media players that provide on-demand access to up to 12 feature films; up to 15 hours of pre-loaded television, news programs and music videos; 50 music CDs and 14 American Airlines-branded audio channels. A seven-inch, touch-screen monitor and Bose(R) QuietComfort(R) 3 Acoustic Noise Cancelling(R) headphones will enhance the entertainment experience.
