Wii DIY Hack - Firefighting Wiimote Robot

Cool, you can make yourself some Firefighting Wiimote Robot this weekend!
It has IR sensors which can detect a candle and a bluetooth transciever to communicate back to a host computer. I use a boebot as the robot platform, an arduino, wiimote and a Linux computer.
The wiimote uses its IR sensor to find the candle. It transmits the sensor readings back to the host computer over bluetooth ( see my earlier post for details). A C program running on the host computer reads the sensor data and sends commands back over bluetooth to the wiimote. The wiimote relays those commands to an arduino board over the wiimote’s expansion port. The expansion ports uses the I2C protocol. The arduino then controls the servos (the boebot uses servos modified for continuous rotation) and fan. The fan is controlled by a ULN8023 chip.
This fire fighting robot is still very crude. It lacks the number of sensors that you would be need to seriously compete. It is mainly a proof of concept that the wiimote can be used in a fire fighting robot. It basically just circles around until it sees a candle, then turns on the fan and moves toward the candle. The wiimote seems to loose the flame when it gets withing 4 inches. Maybe the candle is overloading the sensors or maybe its just bad programming on my part.
Replay - Play Starcraft via a touch screen!
Well, we want to bring some of our past back from August 2006, when we all started this zedomax thing. Although we haven’t really gone far above or anywhere, it’s good that we are still alive.
Especially since Starcraft 2 is about to go crazy, we want to make sure we can play Starcraft 2 via touch screen too by reminding ourselves…duh…
Here’s the Replay:

Katana Sword versus Bullet

Here’s the video that ClumsyFergie was talking about. Watch as the bullet does not affect the Katana sword at all.
I wonder if the sword will break though if it was locked on both ends…

Robot Video - Robot Jockey Racing

Check out this awesome Robot Jockey, I’d say it’s one of the most creative robots ever built.
According to the designer, Martin Buehler, it’s a ”prototype jockey ridden hopping robot that controlled forward speed, hopping height, and pitch balance, the jockey did sideways balance and steering.” I had to read that sentence over about five times before it made sense, you too?

Check out this comical toilet flushing Lego Mindstorm robot. It’s hilarious!
They should install these at all the stalls in the airports. That’d trip out a lot of people. Maybe we can do a candid camera on top of it….hehe…
Tired of flushing your own toilet? Build a RoboFlush! RoboFlush is a simple Lego NXT Mindstorms Robot designed to flush a toilet automatically. It also comes with a manual flush option! Check out these instructions to build your own. Mike D’Amour came up with the idea, and Will Gorman built and documented RoboFlush.
DIY HACK - HOWTO Build your own LED Coffee Table!

Wow, this has to be one of the coolest coffee tables you can own. You can get the kit at Evil Mad Scientist Laboratories for about $350 or $450. You can even purchase a completed version if you are just not circuits-savvy.
Since we first showed these off, we have had a lot of inquiries about how you can make your own table like this. Today we are announcing the availability of some (very large) electronic soldering kits so that you indeed can make your own.
Our kits include the giant printed circuit boards, components, instructions, regulated power supply, and all other parts needed to build the electronic portion of the table tops. Constructed, you end up with what essentially amounts to a single extra-ginormous circuit board that can sit underneath the clear or frosted glass (or plastic) top of your own table.
