Playstation that tracks your face!

Posted in Consumer, Cool, Gadgets, Games, Video by max on the February 29th, 2008 at 3:21 am

This is kinda cool… except who still uses Playstation? They should have really put this on a PS2 or PS3 at least.

As you can see in the video it works great, and would be brilliant for duck-and-cover maneuvering in first-person shooters. However, as you might guess, support for games has yet to be announced

Preview of Google’s GPhone with the Android Linux OS

Posted in Consumer, Cool, Google, Linux, cell phones by max on the February 28th, 2008 at 10:03 am

Check out a preview of the new GPhone, basically a Samsung phone with Google’s Linux Android operating system.I think it’s got great browser which I dig the most. There’s also street view from GoogleMaps but I guess that can be useful.

Perhaps most impressive is the Street View mode of Google Maps, pulled down to the 3G prototype reference phone running at a relatively mild 300MHz. That reference design, which may or may not reflect hardware that will run Android in the future, had another interesting feature: a trackball, currently seen on Danger Hiptops and Blackberries.

DIY balloon sent up 30km

Posted in Cool, Design, DoItYourself!, Earth, Educational, Entertainment, Microcontroller, Space by max on the October 28th, 2007 at 12:46 pm

a href=”http://vimeo.com/359554/l:embed_359554″>Launch and Retrieval from natrium42 on Vimeo.Check out this DIY Balloon that made it 30km!

High altitude ballooning is an emerging hobby, since price of GPS and communications equipment has gotten quite low. It is an excellent hobby for people fascinated by space flight and telerobotics and has many learning aspects — from systems design to electronics design to software engineering. There is also an exciting risk factor, namely, that you could lose your precious electronics if something malfunctions. In this project, many of my interest and knowledge areas came together. Also, I have verified that the Earth is indeed round and that space is black.

Bre Pettis of MAKE also built and launched a near-space balloon, but never found it. See his videos (part 1 and 2).

Styrofoam cup vs deep sea pressure

Posted in Chemistry, Consumer, Cool, Educational, Entertainment, Funny, Video by max on the October 27th, 2007 at 2:27 pm

Wow, check out what happens to a styrofoam cup when simulated to deep sea pressures.

Looks pretty cool doesn’t it…On the surface, at an atmospheric pressure of 14.7 pounds per square inch, the cup stands 4 inches tall. As the remotely operated sub descends, the pressure compresses the Styrofoam and the cup shrinks. Below 3,000 feet, under pressure 100 times greater than that at the surface, the cup shrivels to about half of its original size.

Human LCD in Korea by High School students

Posted in Consumer, Cool, Entertainment by max on the October 12th, 2007 at 6:24 pm

Good thing I can read Korean, it seems like this Human LCD is actually done by high school students from Jeju Island in Korea. Jeju Island is Korea’s Hawaii pretty much…it’s located between Korea and Japan.

How fast can you type?

Posted in Consumer, Cool, Educational, Entertainment, Funny by max on the June 6th, 2007 at 3:08 am

How fast can you type?

I found this site on digg last night while having some beers with my friends and twitting all night. My friends and I were laughing so much playing this game. It’s a lot of fun.

Anyways, check out this cool typing game where you can test how fast you type and also it’s very good for improving your typing speeds. I came to be about 43wpm. What’s yours?

Microsoft’s Future of Communication Technology

Video: Career in Computer Science - MS Research
Check out this cool little guy that will follow you around as you skateboard. This is the tightest thing we’ve seen from Microsoft so far. (Our take on Vista? it sucks…not even going to try it until they got service packs…call us old school…not an early adaptor exclusively for MS products…)
