Google going Web2.0

Posted in Business, Consumer, Web by max on the May 16th, 2007 at 2:58 pm

If you have noticed today, Google has changed its headline bar graphics to be more Web 2.0.

Here’s now:

Google going Web2.0

and before:

Google going Web2.0 2

I don’t know if this is temporary but looks cool, although I do like the old light ocean blue headline too.

Mini Cooper Billboard in San Francisco

Mini Cooper Billboard in San Francisco

You can see this Mini Cooper Billboard in San Francisco on your way towards Bay Bridge. I guess this is actually RFID enabled which is kinda cool. Yes, it’s a very effective way of advertising as I do read it about 75% of the time that I pass by this spot looking for changes in what the Mini Cooper is saying… (mostly kinda stupid… one time it was saying something like “Be small and Go faster” or something) But it is indeed very creative. I don’t know if it actually can identify Mini drivers but I will try to see if the sign changes next time I see a Mini in front of me… (and take a video of course!)

The boards, which usually carry typical advertising, are programmed to identify approaching Mini drivers through a coded signal from a radio chip embedded in their key fob. The messages are personal, based on questionnaires that owners filled out: “Mary, moving at the speed of justice,” if Mary is a lawyer, or “Mike, the special of the day is speed,” if Mike is a chef.

USB Prank - Mouse jiggler

USB Prank - Mouse jiggler

Check out this mouse jiggler that jiggles your mouse annoying when plugged into any computer. You might have to call the IT department if you don’t know if the USB jiggler was inserted into your PC by your evil spirited co-worker. Talking about evil spirited co-workers, check out the USB Mouse Prank Garrett did on me the other day. (Well, Garrett is not evil, he’s a nice guy~)

Why? Either to make sure your screen saver doesn’t come on, or as a practical joke (depending on which mode you select). It was originally marketed towards security professionals and forensics experts who needed to ensure a laptop wouldn’t go into a password-protected screen saver mode while they were away.

Web2.0 News - eBay acquiring Stumbleupon

Posted in Business, Web by max on the April 18th, 2007 at 12:32 pm

StumbleUpon lgo

Okay, we are going to try some Web 2.0 news from now on…i think…

It looks like eBay is acquiring Stumbleupon for around $50 million bucks. Maybe they can make people stumble onto humorous ebay pages like a Sony laptop being sold for 10K. I am not exactly sure what their plan is but it seems like StumbleUpon is getting bigger and bigger than ever. Yeah, if you had a StumbleUpon site in countries that StumbleUpon doesn’t support, you’d make some big bucks…

High-flying startup StumbleUpon has been rumored to be in acquisition discussions since at least last November. Recently we’ve heard that talks have heated up again, with Google, AOL and eBay as potential suitors. A source with knowledge of the deal now says the company has signed a term sheet with eBay to be acquired. The price is somewhere between $40 - $75 million. (update: GigaOm is now reporting the price at a $40 - $45 million).

StumbleUpon lets users rate websites via a browser toolbar. At any time a user can click “Stumble!” and will be taken to a website highly rated by other StumbleUpon users who tend to vote in a similar way as the person “stumbling.” More often than not, it’s something almost serendipitously interesting to the reader. The company expanded into video referrals in late 2006.

The Penny Pyramid

We dare you to build a larger and better penny pyramid than this one

We have all suffered from this affliction at one point or another. The subconscious act of simply dumping one pennies into a jar or other black hole type containers! In this site you will find economic reasons, constructive fun, and charitable options in ridding this uncontrollable urge. The “Penny Pyramid Project” is also here to promote and educate that the penny continues to be a very important denomination and that there are ways to responsibly collect, build, and donate this commonly hoarded coin.

MAC TV Hack - How to run Mac OSX on MAC TV!

Posted in Consumer, Cool, DoItYourself!, Educational, Entertainment, Gadgets, Hack, Video by max on the April 15th, 2007 at 8:57 pm

MAC TV Hack 2

Well, we know we are a little behind on the MAC TV hacks, but here’s how to run Mac OSX on MAC TV.  Check out the funny Apple fights Apple hacks also… These guys need some vicodin…seriously… that’s so anal dudes…(probably some dudes dressed in Louis Vuitton shirts and thinkin’ their the shit… NOT!  Hail the hackers!)

Semthex wrote a processor emulation for the kernel, to sidestep the hardware restrictions that previously disallowed Mac OS X from running on the Apple TV. AppleTVHacks.net was only too happy to help out, and when it turned out we needed more testers we launched a competition to get some. Within hours we had hundreds of eager Apple TV hackers submit entries.

Several hours of testing and refining later and our tester, gimli, managed to follow the steps (included below) to get Mac OS X booting on his Apple TV (click to enlarge)
