Super Mario Brothers are now mice

Posted in Games, USB by david on the May 20th, 2007 at 5:00 am

In keeping with all of the characters that happen to be appearing on a desk near you as a mouse, the most famous of all computer game characters the Super Mario Brothers can now help you get through your days work, but unfortunately they cannot blast away all the SPAM that appears in your In Box every day.

mario

There are two characters Mario of course and a Star, both have the same features and prices tag, however they feature the dreaded roller ball, which is not to brilliant unless you like cleaning it out every week or so.

Product Features

* Two Button USB Mouse
* Your Choice of Mario or Star
* Plug and Play
* Compatible With Windows, Mac and Linux

The cost is $24.99 a bit on the expensive side, but if you really do love those old games then naturally the price is irrelevant.

Maker Faire Live Webcam Video

Posted in Blog, Cool, Educational, Entertainment, USB, Video, Web by max on the May 19th, 2007 at 10:42 am

Hi there, we are at the Maker Faire! I got hands on one of automatic webcams that follow people. Check it out!
It took me awhile to hook up some internet. For some reason, I couldn’t hook up to the free internet here. BUT I got my Sprint Samsung IP-830W to work as a cellular modem.
Hopefully, the live videos stream good on it. (My phone is a life-saver! :) )

Update: We will have more live video tomorrow on 5/20/2007, Sunday from 9am to 5pm. Our video wasn’t working good because the internet connection was bad at the Maker Faire and we had to resort to my pda phone as a USB cellular modem. Tomorrow, we will use a Sprint PCS Broadband card and hopefully fix the problemo.

You can goto Usteam.TV and get the embed code if you want to embed the Live Webcam on your blog or website !

By the way, Ustream.TV is awesome! (Like Youtube but live!)

Posted in Consumer, USB by david on the May 19th, 2007 at 7:00 am

Get a touch of the olden days with this retro type fan, with one important factor it is powered by the USB point on your computer, no plugs or power points needed.

classic fan

The is one thing that is missing from this one though, the ribbons that fly around while its working like what the ones that you see in the old black and white films and old TV shows.

The features of the Classic USB Fan are -

# Classical design
# Oscillatory function, shaking knob control fan direction
# Durable soft fan blades make you free of injury
# Powered by USB
# On/Off switch and variable speed control knob
# Dimension: 18×14cm
# Weight: 168g

Available from many online outlets, the fan will cost you around $18, not bad at all.

The Nike version of a USB flash drive has hit the stores in Japan and looks really cool indeed, it is a 1 GB version and comes with a chain as well, to open the device all that is needed is that the toe end of the shoe is removed, but it may be a bit awkward to insert because of the rubber surround.

nike usb

Works with Windows XP and Mac, 1 GB, weighs 32 grams and the dimensions are W65 mm x D25 mm x H25 mm and will cost you about $20!

Neat little speakers

Posted in Audio, USB by david on the May 16th, 2007 at 3:36 am

This is a great idea for people who travel or who just like a better a sound to their computer, the point with these are that they have a unique on and off switch or rather no switch at all, as you need only tip the whole speaker up and down or over, whatever it is, anyway the unit is powered from the USB port which is a slight inconvenience but the power and connection to the computer has to come from somewhere.

gravity

The Boynq Saturn Speaker has a couple of great features, like being magnetically shielded which is supposed to stop the interference of cell phones and other devices, with a 5W RMS full range driver, which is a mere three inches in diameter but will not distort the sound.

DIY USB HACK - Unlocking USB Disk Drives

Posted in Circuits, Consumer, Cool, DoItYourself!, Educational, Entertainment, Gadgets, Hack, Linux, Microcontroller, Storage, USB by max on the May 11th, 2007 at 1:40 pm

USB Hack

Here’s a cool USB disk drive hack that shows you how to bypass the password retries with 1 wire and tips to getting started with cracking the actual password. This shows how vulnerable those USB disk drives are in the hands of smart hackers.

The package seems to be made of black velvet, and there’s a nice keychain hidden in a compartment of the package which you can use to hang the stick around your neck. I’m not so fond of metal on my body, considering I work with electricity a lot, but I can imagine it’s a nice way to carry really valuable data around.

First thing I did is plug the device into my Linux-machine. It showed nothing but a 2MB partition containing a Windows program called PASSWORD.EXE, so no chance of getting it to work easily in a non-Windows environment. So much for cross-platform compatibility… Ok, so let’s boot into Windows.

Under Windows the program was runnable OK. Hmm, seems someone already entered a password for me… and I now only had nine retries before the unit would self-destruct!

USB Prank - Mouse jiggler

Posted in Consumer, Cool, Gadgets, USB by max on the April 23rd, 2007 at 11:08 pm

USB Prank - Mouse jiggler

Check out this mouse jiggler that jiggles your mouse annoying when plugged into any computer. You might have to call the IT department if you don’t know if the USB jiggler was inserted into your PC by your evil spirited co-worker. Talking about evil spirited co-workers, check out the USB Mouse Prank Garrett did on me the other day. (Well, Garrett is not evil, he’s a nice guy~)

Why? Either to make sure your screen saver doesn’t come on, or as a practical joke (depending on which mode you select). It was originally marketed towards security professionals and forensics experts who needed to ensure a laptop wouldn’t go into a password-protected screen saver mode while they were away.

Garrett’s USB Mouse Prank Device

I was at work trying to draw some stuff and Garrett came over with his USB Hid Portal device and plugged it into my USB hub (which was annoying at first) then suddenly my mouse started making circles on its own! So we decided to call this the USB Mouse Prank Device… There’s really no howto on this but you can check out Garrett’s past USB projects such as:

USB HID Portal Device

SixAxisController HOWTO using a USB HID Portal

and we will be bringing the USB HID Portal device to Maker Faire in San Mateo, California so c’ ya there!

(I am thinking about live blogging and maybe setup a live camera or somethin’… what do you think???)

You can get Youtube version here but it’s hard to see.

You can get the Blip.tv version here too which is a lot better resolution.
