R2D2 USB Hub in action!

Posted in Computer, Consumer, Cool, Design, Gadgets, USB by max on the July 5th, 2008 at 6:46 pm

Using the R2D2 USB hub might not make your USB devices to run faster but it’s still a fun little USB hub than your regular ol’ hub with no feelings.

So like the Darth Vader Hub, it is animated, provides some nifty Star Wars sound effects and more precisely the famous R2D2 sounds effect.
Notice that it goes into action every 3 minutes; it offers 4 USB ports, moving the head.

Star Wars USB Hubs!

R2D2 and Darth Vader may be in reach of your USB devices with this cool Star Wars USB Hubs.

Can’t complain now that the evil force is comin’ to get your USB devices.

these official R2D2 and Vader USB hubs. R2’s head moves, he lights up and emits genuine Star Wars sound effects every three minutes, while Vader just seems to have the sound effects and glowing eyes. *Shiver*… menacing. Of course they also have four full-speed USB sockets on the front, and come with three feet of USB cable. Available in July for around $66… but that’s in Japan, USB hub fans.

Integrated Desk with embedded PC and Fold-Away Monitor

Integrated Desk with embedded PC and Fold-Away Monitor

Wow, check this integrated desk with embedded PC and fold-away monitor!  Great concept, maybe Apple might go for something like this.

It’d be even better if you could do “dual-monitor” setup.

Besides being absolutely beautiful, this Sync Desktop concept from designer Gareth Battensby features a fold-away widescreen monitor and keyboard, a built in USB hub, scanner, mouse, webcam, easy-to-access DVD unit, and plenty of storage space. And because it is all seamlessly integrated into the design, the Sync can be converted into a standard desk for other projects whenever necessary. The only problem is that I doubt that it could ever become a commercial product unless there was a way to upgrade the hardware.

DIY HACK - How to make your own Video Cassette USB Hub!

DIY HACK - How to make your own Video Cassette USB Hub!

DIY HACK - How to make your own Video Cassette USB Hub!2

Ever wonder, can I make my own cool looking USB hub that doesn’t look like a USB hub?
Well, here’s some good news for you, there’s full instructions over at instructables on how to make your own video cassette USB hub. Thank Alan over at HackedGadgets for finding it. (He always finds the coolest gadget hacks.)

Nowadays, usb hubs are getting smaller and smaller (and then, they fall behind your desk because the cable is heavier than the hub an then you have to crouch behind your computer to recover it)

So I needed something better (of course, i could have simply glued it in place )
I got some old videotapes to throw away, and suddenly an idea hit me: I like the look of these old tapes, needed an usb hub that won’t slide behind the desk, why not build an videotape usb hub?
And some LEDs could be added to nearly everything, and an videotape forms no exception i think..

So save an old tape off the landfills and give it a new, fancy life…
