Mobile WiMax Wave 2 tested for live HDTV streaming!

SKtelecom, the biggest telecommunications in Korea who also runs Cyworld, has just finished testing Mobile WiMax Wave 2 for HD live streaming.  They have successfully streamed a full length HD quality movie.

Theorectically, the new WiMax Wave 2 is capable of 37.44Mbps download speeds and 10.08Mbps upload speeds.

In the test, a 700MB movie file was downloaded within just 2 minutes and 30 seconds.

Using MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) technology, WiMax Wave 2 supposedly about twice faster than the exisitng WiMax.  Soon, the WiMax Wave 2 service will be available all over Korea.

Helio PN-810

Helio PN-810 2

I’ve been watching Helio for awhile now. I’ve even played golf with the guy who was operating the secret operations of Helio before its launch last year. Actually he’s works for SK Telecoms in Korea who is the parent company behind Helios. The Korean telecommunication company wants to get a piece of the U.S. market. Well, I think they have done it and they are eating more of the pie as we move along here.

I’ve tried Helios at my local Frys and the internet speed was amazingly fast in comparison to my HTC8125 Cingular. But their browser doesn’t support all type of websites, it supports MySpace very well though. Anyways, I am looking forware to their new Pantech PN-810 which has a keyboard, something that I’d need.

Speaking of Pantech phones, I almost had the chance to work at that company couple years ago when I moved to Korea for a couple years. Well, the only reason I didn’t get the job was because their company location. They were located way outside of Seoul, in a rural city. That’s no fun, there’s no clubs and hot chics.

Anyways, check out the new Pantech and leave a comment if you have some positive or negative experiences using Helio.
