Here’s a funky robot that dances to the music from Japan.  You can even hook up your iPod to enjoy your music on the robot.

It’s a robot for pure recreation, I am not sure how it’d sell in the U.S. market yet.

The two-wheeled, dancing A.M.P. (Automated Music Personality or Ampbot) from Sega-Hasbro stands 2.4-feet tall and features a MP3 or iPod cradle on its back, stereo speakers, and the ability to follow and interact with its owner. There’s a 5-inch mid-range speaker in the chest and a pair of smaller tweeters in the shoulders for a total output of 12 watts. Osamu Takeuchi of Sega Toys says, “The owner can also enjoy being chased around the house by the robot.

Dog MP3 is cute!

The Dog MP3 does not look like a dog.  Instead, it looks like a fluffy cloud with eyes and green tentacles.

Neverthless, it looks cute and this MP3 might just do good for your girlfriend’s birthday.

DIY Headphones

DIY Headphones

Here’s a cool DIY headphone.  I can feel ya because I listen to music all day long too.  As soon as I am off the computer, I immediate switch onto my MP3 or iPod.

Since I listen to music/podcasts/audiobooks throughout the day while I’m working, I adapted a pair of normal safety earphones for speakers, and added a vintage look. I cut the outside portion of the cups off, replaced with a curved flat sheet of plastic -over which I mounted the grill (from an old record player) and the cork which I sanded to shape. Then I painted the rest of the shell green, and installed some $50 drivers. I still use them daily.

Nutouch 7″ Digital Frame with MP3 AND Touchscreen does the job indeed.

Posted in Consumer, Cool, Digital Frames, Gadgets, Storage, USB, photography by max on the June 15th, 2008 at 8:18 pm

Nutouch 7\" Digital Frame with MP3 AND Touchscreen does the job indeed.

Who said a 800×600 pixel 7″ digital frame with MP3 and touchscreen isn’t awesome?

You control it with the sexy blue LED touch sensor array we mentioned earlier that’s built into the piano black frame - touch the frame and the buttons appear. The built-in battery lets you run the digital frame for a couple of hours without being plugged in - so you can show your latest pics off at your next dinner party without trailing wires around. This device works with all the main brands of memory card in the market today, plus you can load pics into its generous internal memory straight from your computer via the USB port. Just to add cream to the strawberries (so to speak) they’ve added clock and calendar functions to make this a very high tech desk accessory. All in all this is an excellent ‘do-it-all’ DPF (see, it’s catching on already).

VideoLAN - Open Source DVD/VCD/Media Player

VideoLAN - Open Source DVD/VCD/Media Player

Recently, I had couple overseas VCDs to watch but I recently re-installed my PC and my default Windows Media Player could not open the VCDs. Although most computers nowdays come installed with a VCD-capable player, I decided to search for an open-source media player and found VideoLAN.

It works pretty good except I only had one trouble of videos playing in black and white. To fix this, you simply need to set the video mode to something like Direct3D.

The VideoLAN also is capable of playing many formats without extra installation of codes. I am planning to explore more as I am trying to move away from OEM software to support open-source platforms.

Here’s the features VideoLAN provides from their homepage:

VLC media player is a highly portable multimedia player for various audio and video formats (MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, DivX, mp3, ogg, …) as well as DVDs, VCDs, and various streaming protocols.
It can also be used as a server to stream in unicast or multicast in IPv4 or IPv6 on a high-bandwidth network.
It doesn’t need any external codec or program to work.

The best thing about VideoLAN is that it can run on Linux, Macs, or PCs and it’s open-source that’s being continually developed.

You can check download VideoLAN here.

Easy plug switching

Posted in Circuits, Computer, Consumer, Funny, Household, Music, mp3 by david on the February 27th, 2008 at 12:15 pm

For people who have to use an extension lead in order to house all of the plugs that are needed to get power for all of your hi tech gadgets and any else that you are going to need to get you through the day.

plug cutoff

This means that the plugs can stay in place but the power can be switched off by just raising the plug and therefore cutting the power to that particular device.

iPhone, iPod Touch, now iStick? Should it stick or not?

iPhone, iPod Touch, now iStick? Should it stick or not?

iPhone, iPod Touch, now iStick? Should it stick or not?

Here’s an interesting concept design for iStick, which is basically box sized version of the iPhone. I am not sure if I will need this, it looks it’s real fragile with displays on the four sides. Neverthless, koodos to designer Alexei Mikhailov for great looking design.

Designer Alexei Mikhailov isn’t out to convince people his iStick concept is the perfect mobile convergence device. In fact he clearly points out the iStick isn’t for viewing movies and the screen is too small for effective photo viewing. What it does have is a visual replication of the iPhone/Touch space inside a device the size of a lipstick tube.

They say that if you are on a desert island for so long, you will be able to make almost anything out of coconuts and here is the proof.

coconut amp

This is a really cool coconut amp, and in fact if you can make this then you are on your way to building up a civilisation.
