Try CozyURL for shortening your Affiliate URL!

Posted in A+Featured Web, Blog, Consumer, Cool, Web, WebApp, Wordpress by max on the October 10th, 2008 at 6:13 pm

Well, I’ve always wanted to make this site that would shorten your affiliate links and finally did it today so check it out, it’s called CozyURL.com:

Well, here’s another site called CozyURL.com I made today in about 2 hours while chatting on G-mail with Josh.

I didn’t add any graphics so it’s fast and you can easily access it from mobile devices too.

It’s basically a site that will shorten URLs like http://sdfkcs.com/jdsf923jfdsaf to http://CozyURL/120.

It’s a free site and your link will permanently remain so please knock yourself out the next time you need to shorten that long GoogleMaps URL, or simply want to remember one number for viewing the site on your mobile phone.

I might open-source the code since some of you might like to make your own, so leave a comment if you want it.

DIY - HOWTO Make a Serial port IR Receiver!

Posted in A+Featured DIYs, Circuits, Computer, Consumer, Cool, Design, DoItYourself!, Educational, Entertainment, Gadgets, HOWTO, Hack, Projects by max on the September 12th, 2008 at 5:32 pm

Here’s a cool DIY on how to make your own serial port IR receiver.

What does it do you ask?

Well, IR receiver can be used for controlling any IR devices or reading from them such as TVs, DVDs, etc…etc…

The best part about this DIY is that it can be used for making your custom DIY media center.

This circuitry allows you to control your computer with a simple remote, like the one you already use for your TV-set. It’s very useful when you want to control a DVD or an mp3 player without having to stay at the keyboard. Please note that this circuit is NOT IrDA compatible and it won’t help you to connect to your mobile phone or whatever IrDA device; it’s only good to control your pc with a standard remote control. I use it for VDR and now my pc is a full featured set top box connected to the television, capable to digitally record and replay satellite television, DVDs and every kind of digital content (mp3, divx). There are many softwares you can install to control this ciruit; for Linux you can use Lirc and for Windows you can use either Winlirc, Girder, IR Assistant or uIRC.

I-O Data Mobile Keyboard

I-O Data Mobile Keyboard

Here’s an interesting I-O Data Mobile keyboard for your mobile phones… kinda pointless when you have a Blackberry like me though.  Might be useful for a crappy PDA that has a crappy keyboard.  (Am I being too harsh here???)

I-O Data again, with this time, a new small keyboard for your mobile phone which can be connected to your device via Bluetooth.

DIY Phone Unlocking - Use Universal SIM Unlock Card

Posted in Consumer, Cool, DoItYourself!, Hack, cell phones by max on the May 7th, 2008 at 12:45 pm

Universal SIM Unlock Card - Phone-unlocking SIM-shim

Lol, this little Sim Unlock Card fits between your SIM card and the phone.  There is even a microcontroller on the freakin’ thing, which probably does the unlocking job.

It supposedly works for many phones as listed on the product site at usbfever.com.

This SIM unlock is made of a very thin piece of FPC (0.10mm) with a Microcontroller mounted on, that goes between your Operator’s SIM card & the phone’s SIM socket.

Because of it’s very thin & slim design it fits into almost all phone’s on the market and can also be easily removed again. It’s got Gold Immersion and makes perfect contact with the card and the socket at ALL times.

Cutting of your Operator’s SIM card is required but kept to a minimum. (there are products on the market claiming that no cutting is required to use them, however they don?t give a reliable connection between the phone and the SIM card so that in certain cases it might not work at all or you might get problems during usage)

This SIM unlock  is a revolutionary do-it-yourself Plug & Play card for unlocking Mobile Phones without the risk of damaging the phone or voiding it’s warranty.

This SIM unlock is inserted into the mobile phone in parallel with your Operator’s SIM card and enables you to use your card on phones locked to another provider..

No more Test-Point. No more opening phones.. No more waiting for logs.. No more Server delays & errors.. No more Cracks & illegal hackings.. No more damaged phones.. No more lost warranty because of phone modifications..

Egg Phone!

Egg Phone!

Check out this awesome Egg Phone! Roman Tubl has designed this phone, possibly a good competitor to the iPhone. The egg shape will help the phone from being more friendly to human hands.

Designer Roman Tubl wasn’t concerned with integrating the latest and greatest in his EGG mobile phone concept. He just wanted something functional and easy to use with some eye candy for people who like their phones flashy - literally.
