DIY - How to Make Wall Art using Ceiling Medallions!

Here’s a cool DIY showing you how to use ceiling medallions as wall art, great idea for your home.
The lightweight urethane medallions were simply painted in subtly varying shades of yellow and easily mounted on the wall of this living room. The medallions are affordable, around $20 to $30, so it’s quite an attainable way to bring “art” into your home. Another thought? Pick up a medallion with a circular opening in the center, and have a glass cutter make you a round mirror to size, and you’ll have an ornate mirror at a fractional price.
Halloween DIY - HOWTO make a Haunted Mirror!

Here’s a really fun Halloween DIY that shows you how to make a haunted mirror that will magically let “ghosts” appear.
The mirror is really a box with a two-way mirror on the front. Inside the box are models or other renderings of ghosts. Since the inside of the box is black, the two-way mirror reflects the room normally, but when tiny lights hidden inside the box are illuminated, they wash out the reflection and reveal the hidden ghosts.
MIT Students Develop Solar Dish Capable of 1000X Sun Power!

Here’s a cool solar dish that is capable of “vaporizing” water the second you hit the apex of its dish. The MIT students have already formed a corporation, there’s no telling when this will be available for homes and offices.
The results are staggering — the completed mirror focuses enough solar energy at its focal point to melt solid steel. The energy of typical sunlight is concentrated by a factor of 1,000. This was showcased during a demonstration, in which a team member held up a board, which instantly and violently combusted, when brought within range of the focal point.

Wiper for the bathroom mirror
Now just why hasn’t anyone ever thought of this before, those of us who are drivers have used them for years and yet these have never appeared in the place that we really could use them as well, in the bathroom.

Unfortunately it is not electric that would be just too risky, so you may have to a bit of manual wiping.
The mirror measures 500 cm x 450 cm or if you would to go larger 700 cm x 500 cm.
They are made in Spain and no prices out yet.

Backyard surveillance system

You know, my neighbor used to leave about $2000 in CASH on his dining table AND he NEVER locked his front door of his house.
One day, I asked him, “What if someone robs you?”
He said, “I trust God and he will protect me…”
Well, the funny thing is, this guy has NEVER been robbed all his life!
BUT if you don’t believe me, you can always stick with some type of backyward surveillance system where you can play god yourself…
This certainly deserves to be a “one-of-a-kind” surveillance system. Talking about “one-of-a-kind”, we made a new website last week called, SFOneOfAKind.com.
It’s basically a blog I built for one of my “real estate” friends who sells some high-rise penthouses in downtown San Francisco. Anyways, check both out!
The tilt mechanism is a little more complex, the mirror is pivoted in the center on a copper tube, at one end of the mirror are springs which keep tension on the cord, on the other is the cord itself. Pull the cord and the mirror tilts. Complicating this is the fact that mirror can spin fully round. I wanted the tilt to remain independent and unchanging from the spin so I had to run the cord through a guide that sits in the centre of rotation. This guide is relatively invisible in practice because it is located so far back from the focal plane. The tilt is controlled at the bottom with a simple wooden lever.

Holy crap, this is awesome!
We’ve looked at set-ups like this in the past (see here, here and here), and this is one is also pretty impressive. “The display consists of a high-speed video projector, a spinning mirror covered by a holographic diffuser, and FPGA circuitry to decode specially rendered DVI video signals. The display uses a standard programmable graphics card to render over 5,000 images per second of interactive 3D graphics, projecting 360-degree views with 1.25 degree separation up to 20 updates per second.” Watch below…
