Monty 2

Wow, check out this cool Monty bike this guy made!

This is a small, simple recumbent bicycle. With its 16″ wheels Monty is a portable vehicle which easily can be dismantled. I wanted a bike that I can bring on trains, buses and other means of public transport. Since there are hardly any small foldable recumbent bikes on the market I decided to build one myself.

DIY HACK - How to make your own Metal Detector!

Metal Detector 1 Metal Detector 3

Metal Detector 2

I’ve noticed many people using metal detectors on the beach lately to find treasures or junk but here’s a great way to make one of those yourself!

BFO ( beat frequency oscillator ) metal detectors use two oscillators, each of which produces a radio frequency. One of these oscillators uses a coil of wire that we call the search loop. The second oscillator uses a much smaller coil of wire, and is usually inside the control box and is called the reference oscillator. By adjusting the oscillators so their frequencies are very nearly the same, the difference between them is made audible as a beat note, this beat note changes slightly when the search loop is moved over or near to a piece of metal. It has been found in practice best to make the search oscillator fixed say at 100khz and to arrange for the reference oscillator to be adjustable 100khz plus or minus 250hz. This gives a beat note of 250hz to 0 to 250hz. The beat note disappears or nulls when the two oscillators are about equal. This type of detector is most sensitive when the beat note is close to zero, about 5hz ( motor boating ) any slight change being noticeable.

DIY HACK - Wearable LED Light

Posted in Circuits, Consumer, Cool, DoItYourself!, Educational, Entertainment, Gadgets, Graphics, Hack, Projects by max on the April 3rd, 2007 at 12:42 pm

Wearable LED Light

Check out the wearable LED light you can make!

The Wearable Light kit is a leather cuff with LEDs embedded inside. The Velcro functions as a switch so the bracelet only illuminates when it is in active use. It is a kit designed as an investigative tool to gain insight into DIY culture. Marrying sewing techniques with electronics, a new aestheticized vernacular for constructing simple circuitry is developed. The kits were deployed to crafters in the U.S., Canada and UK.

Hornet Gyro

Hornet Gyro 2

Check out these awesome Hornet Gyros if you haven’t yet. This would be cool to make and fly it around your pad!  You can start with these mini-kits first and then maybe move on to the real thang!

The Hornet Autogyro is 2-stroke powered, recreational, sport gyroplane. It was designed from the beginning to be an ultralight, meaning, that you do not need a license to fly it. However, in the interest of safety (and your own neck), flight instruction is mandatory. The 140+ page documentation package that is available from this site is free for download.

DIY HOWTO - MAC Backpack

Posted in Consumer, Cool, Educational, Entertainment, Funny, Gadgets, Storage, Travel by max on the April 3rd, 2007 at 3:06 am

MAC Backpack

Let’s go make a MACpack, or a backpack made with an old MAC. If you are really into MACs, you really need one of these…

Finally after nearly a year of working, i have finished my masterpiece; I have racked up more geek points by creating a backpack from an old macintosh SE computer c. 1988. I know everyone is saying either A.) why did you destroy a perfectly good macintosh? Or B.) Why didn’t you spend that time making floppy disk plate mail like you promised? Well to be truthful/ in my defense, The mac was dead and I tried all I could to find the necessary system software, and I didn’t want plate mail armor, however geeky, as much as I wanted this. Let’s move on to the actual instructions:
