DIY - Color Organ

Wow, check this color organ out, it almost looks like candy.
The circuit itself consists of an electret condensor microphone feeding a two stage preamplifier with a sensitivity control. The signal is then split up into three channels with individual level adjustments. Each channel has it’s own filter circuit, so that they each respond to a different range of sound frequencies, one each for treble, midrange, and bass sounds. The signal is then sent to an LED bargraph ladder circuit, with red/yellow, green/white, and blue/green leds for each channel respectively. Two LEDs were used for every one shown in the diagram, and the LED resistors were increased to 1K to extend battery life. With high output LEDs there is still lots of brightness even at lower currents, so this works well to lower current consumption. As well, there was a single purple colored UV LED included that is on whenever power is turned on.
AVR LED Clock

Ah ha! Here’s a cool AVR LED Clock you can make that also syncs itself with the NTP
time server via ethernet! (We are going to have to make this too…)
Aqua Teen Hunger Force Update

Things have been going crazy over Aqua Teen Hunger Force. I think their guerilla marketing strategy did work!

Cool LED men gets blown up by the stupid government

Click Here to View in Full Screen Mode
Boston is going crazy over our cool LED man. Well I meant “our” as in the technology community.
They’ve “identified” it as a bomb threat and started blowing up these as they find them.
Check out this hilarious video, here.
More cool funny stuff.
Check out the full story.
What do we think of this? Everyone here at Zedomax was laughing all the way through the video,
we first thought it was just fake… :p
This is an outrage, they should hire some smarter people at least. Just because it’s hanging in
random places doesn’t mean it’s a threat! I know it’s post 911 era, but this is just going way too
far. They just have to hire couple geeky guys like us in their bomb squad (and pay us at least six
figures for being geeky) and they would have known it’s just an LED. My condolences go out to
Peter Berdvosky, who is an innocent art student. It’s a good thing the LEDs are just LEDs, if they
were people, oh man, that would really blow the world.
Man, thinking of tax time and how much of my hard earned dollars that are withheld by the
government, this is total BS… Anyone feeling the same way, link to this article and Make article
and let’s start a revolution against stupid bomb squad! (again, this is so stupid, they REALLY
need some smarter people in the government…)
Really, there should be a news TV about how stupid these people are wasting our tax money,
instead these TV people are taking it so serious! (It’s a great thing I don’t watch TV and
don’t really care about how everyone else in the world thinks and the media.)
Leave your positive and negative thoughts!
P.S. If that’s the bomb squad, I better move to another country becaz that ain’t protection,
that’s plain stupidity.
Cool DIY LED Bike Light System
Check out this cool LED Bike Light system you can make!
This can be made to be just a headlight or both a headlight/taillight bike light system.
My NiteRider light was off getting fixed at the factory and I needed something for my daily commute. I have used it in a 45 minute pouring rain commute on the way in to work and it worked like a champ.

Here’s a cool self-recharging mini-flashlight you can make yourself if you are still on vacation.
Come to think of it, we are going to have to build self-powered POVs soon…
DIY - LED lighting Guide
Here’s a cool LED HOWTO guide including how to power LEDs using DC or AC.
LED lights are extremely efficient compared to standard incandescent lighting. No other lighting source outputs as many lumens per watt. They are particularly efficient at producing a single color of light. Other light sources have to produce the entire spectrum and optically filter out unwanted colors. However, LEDs can be manufactured to produce only one wavelength of light. This makes them particularly useful in stop lights.
Another advantage to LEDs is their operating temperature. Most available today can be function for hours and remain cool to the touch. Directionality is another key property. They only emit light over a relatively small angle. This can be advantageous for reading lights, but hinders performance when attempting to light an entire room.
If the advantages of LED lighting interest you, Myths Busted, LED Lighting is an excellent article by a researcher in outdoor lighting solutions. (And the source of most my information.)
