Stumbleupon launches its Toolbar-less Browsing Feature!

Posted in A+Featured Web, Consumer, Cool, Entertainment, SiteHoppin, Web, WebApp, Wiki by max on the October 2nd, 2008 at 10:28 am

Stumbleupon launches its Toolbar-less browsing feature, of course, it seems that they have picked on our ideas from SiteHoppin, which is originally based on Toolbar-less browsing.

You can test both out yourself and judge which one is better, I still think my SiteHoppin rocks over SU’s new toolbar-lessness.

Test out SU Web Version

Test out SH Web Version

Another great news that I should be telling the world is that SiteHoppin will become the first “open-source” platform.  (that will be released under GNU license as a MediaWiki extension.  You can stay updated on that on my MediaWiki page)

The reason I am going open-source is to open the development of SiteHoppin to the world, just like Google Android, Google Chrome, etc…etc…

Besides that, I don’t have whole lotta time to develop SiteHoppin anymore, it takes me all day to code the site.  It would be great if I can share my knowledge to the world and also have other developers contribute to the “knowledge”.

But first, we will be going through an “image” change from beers to something more appropriate.  We have been messing around too much and partying it up but we should be back in full-force with some open-source code and official “launch” as we are still in beta for last 10 months.

Dell (Dell) on Tuesday said it would unveil its first mini-notebook this week, officially taking on Hewlett-Packard (NYSE: HPQ) and others in the emerging market for sub-10-inch, ultra-light laptops.

Other than confirming the new product’s scheduled introduction, a Dell’s spokeswoman declined to provide details on what’s probably the worst kept secret on the Web. Gadget enthusiast sites have been leaking details on the device, expected to be called the Inspiron Mini 9, for the last couple of weeks. The launch date could be as early as Thursday.

NASA’s new Spacesuits look more like a Body-Builder!

Posted in Consumer, Cool, Design, Space, science, technology by max on the June 13th, 2008 at 8:23 pm

NASA\'s new Spacesuits look more like a Body-Builder!

Check out the new spacesuits (on the right) that NASA has been working on.  It definitely looks more like a body builder now when you wear one.

NASA just awarded its future spacesuit contract to Oceaneering International. The US firm must now design, test, and produce two suits — the default suit (pictured after the break) worn on-board for launch and landing and a second, more versatile, cheese-proof suit worn during space walks and upon the surface of the moon.

Samsung Launching a Dual Monitor with Webcam!

Posted in Computer, Consumer, Cool, Gadgets, LCD by max on the May 29th, 2008 at 4:00 pm

Samsung Launching a Dual Monitor with Webcam!

Samsung will be launching their new dual monitor setup which includes a 22-inch monitor and a mini detachable 7-inch monitor you can attach on any side of the bigger monitor.

This seems like a really good idea and I think other LCD manufacturers will quickly start copying it.

It makes sense since sometimes you just need  about 7 inches of extra screen for IMs, video messaging, or a slideshow of your flickr while you work.

SEOUL, Korea (AVING) — <Visual News> Samsung Electronics announced the launch of its 22-inch all-in-one LCD monitor ‘SyncMaster 2263DX’ in Korea market, which features an additional 7-inch monitor connected to the display through USB.

Facilitating a multi-screen environment, the 2263DX monitor is ideal for users who require multiple screens to run programs and applications simultaneously. Leveraging Samsung’s proprietary UbiSync technology, the 2263DX delivers simple plug-and-play USB 2.0 connectivity, allowing for effortless dual screen configuration.

With a wide 170/160 viewing angle and a high 1680 x 1050 resolution on the 22-inch screen and a resolution of 800×480 on the tandem screen, the SyncMaster 2263DX supports Samsung’s MagicBrite3 technology, 8,000:1 contrast ratio, 5 ms response time, a built-in 3M high-resolution webcam, dual-array microphone and speakers.

Sony’s new 360 degree Glass Speaker!

Posted in Audio, Consumer, Cool, Gadgets, Music, Speakers by max on the May 29th, 2008 at 2:19 pm

Sony\'s new 360 degree Glass Speaker!

Check out this 360 degree glasss speaker from Sony.  It won’t be available here in the US for awhile but still…it looks cool and I bet the sound is good too.

Sony announced the launch of its unique glass speaker system named Sauntina (model: NSA-PF1). It vibrates with a single three-dimensional depth, producing clear sound in 360 degrees. The glass tube can also be illuminated with the choice of three colors including blue, amber and purple. 360 degree sound is not a big deal and can be achieved easily using normal speakers too, but this is something new and sound reproduction is done using vibrating glass instead of coil as in normal speakers. It will go on sale in Japan on June 20th for 1,050,000 JPY.

Asus Eee Linux Box!

Posted in Computer, Consumer, Cool, Gadgets, Laptop by max on the May 26th, 2008 at 10:11 pm

 Asus Eee Linux Box!

Asus is working on their new Linux box that looks like wii.

* As per our previous speculation, an official launch of the Eee Box will indeed take place on June 3rd at Computex in Taiwan. Hardly surprising given the show is in Taiwan, the home of Asus and many a computing manufacturer.
* Specs wise, our source told us the machines would be launching with 2GB RAM as standard, along with a 160GB hard drive - obviously not an SSD.
* These new machines will be running the same Linux distro found on the Eee PCs - no bad thing by our reckoning.
* It’ll be launching in the UK in Q3 and be available and be available in white, though no word was made as to the availability of the proposed black version.
* Finally, and somewhat disappointingly, our source couldn’t confirm whether these early systems would in fact be using the Centrino Atom platform adding: “I honestly don’t know at this point”. In any case, with other vendors beginning to announce Atom powered machines, the odds are overwhelmingly stacked in Atom’s favour on this one.

Viewsonic Korea Launches a Curved 19″ LCD in Korea

Viewsonic Korea Launches a Curved 19\" LCD in Korea

Korea is becoming more of a central location where companies are launching products to test out the market.

Recently, Viewsonic launches their new curved 19″ LCD in Korea.  It doesn’t look curved to me but it must be just so slightly.

SEOUL, Korea (AVING) — <Visual News> Viewsonic Korea(www.viewsonic.com) announced the launch of its 19-inch wide LCD monitor ‘VX1962WM’ in Korea market, which is available in June.

Supporting 1680*1050 resolution, 6000:1 contrast ratio and 2ms response speed, the VX1962WM is equipped with DVR and D-SUB ports.

No words on pricing yet.

Nokia E66 Approved by FCC

Posted in Consumer, Gadgets, Nokia, cell phones by max on the May 25th, 2008 at 12:01 am

Nokia E66 Approved by FCC

Yey, Nokia E66 is approved by FCC.  Too bad they still need to work on their browser.  No matter how fast their phone goes, it will still be crappy by Zedomax standards if there’s no browser that supports flash.

One of Nokia’s upcoming business-class handsets, the svelte E66 slider, has garnered FCC approval ahead of a launch that we’ve got to believe is happening in the very near future now. That’s the good news; the bad news is that there’s zero North American 3G involved from what we can see in the test reports.

AT&T Confirms High Speed Rollout in Time for iPhone 2.0 - Will it be fast enough?

Posted in Consumer, Educational, Gadgets, Industrial, WiMax, Wireless, cell phones, iPhone, technology by max on the May 22nd, 2008 at 11:28 pm

AT&T confirms their higher speed 3G wireless speeds when the new iPhone rolls out. At 1.4 Mbps Down and 800 Kbps Up, will this be fast enough?

The answer is already clear. Their current 3G speeds are so slow that you can’t even really watch Youtube videos on it. With the new “hyped’ 3G speeds, AT&T is only fooling consumers, who in turn will also fool themselves to believing this is something new.

Do you want to be lied to twice?  I don’t think so, just remember when Apple had those TV ads when the iPhone streamed live Youtube…

For comparison, we could compare to the WiMax Wave 2 technology, which can stream HD quality videos.

With the new WiMax technology boasting 37.44Mbps download speeds and 10.08Mbps upload speeds, AT&T is still stuck back about 2-3 years.

They basically bought out Cingular couple years ago just so they can get into the mobile telecommunications market. AT&T has not proven themselves and all this 3G will be another $400 out of your pocket while the CEOs go play golf with your money.

Better solution?

iPhone should be available on Sprint as Sprint will be rolling out WiMax later this year. Although that’s still not the fastest WiMax, it will be much faster than AT&T’s “claimed” 3G speeds.

AT&T has announced that it will have completed a country wide rollout of its HSUPA 3G service by the end of June. We’re guessing that a little voice from Cupertino might have been hurrying AT&T along. You know, just like AT&T boosting EDGE speeds last year on the iPhone’s launch date. Just saying.
