Amazon Netbook Review Roundup!

Posted in A+Featured Gadgets, Computer, Consumer, Cool, Educational, Entertainment, Gadgets, Laptop by max on the October 10th, 2008 at 9:50 am

Here’s a round of of best netbooks you can get from Amazon today from our Laptop Blog:

Eee PC 1000H is probably the top-of-the-line netbook to get right now as it offers a 10″ screen,160GB hard drive, Windows XP, and Atom 1.6Ghz processor.  I like the fact that Eee PCs have been leading the netbook industry and you won’t be disappointed carrying this 3.1 pound beast in your bag. The battery life is estimated at 7 hours but I think as long as you get about 4-5 hours on this, that’s good enough.

There’s other models of Eee PCs, but this one is the that will give you bang for you buck as it has the largest harddrive.

Eee PC 1000H - $479 at Amazon

MSI Wind 10″ netbook is probably the 2nd best choice right now as far as performance and speed goes.  This MSI netbook comes with 10″ screen, 80GB harddrive, 1.6 Ghz Atom processor, Windows XP, and weighs just 2.1 pounds.  I do like it but I’d rather get the Eee PC 1000H which comes with larger harddrive and longer battery life.

MSI Wind 10″ - $549.99 at Amazon

Acer Aspire One 8.9″ netbook is next with 160GB harddrive, Atom N270 processor, Windows XP, and 1GB memory.   I think 8.9″ is too small for any netbook but if you must get an 8.9″ screen, get this one as it comes loaded with features you won’t see on the other 8.9″ netbooks.  The 5.5 hour battery life should last you at least 3-4 hours.

Acer Aspire One 8.9″ Sapphire Blue $429.99 at Amazon

Acer Aspire One 8.9″ White $429.99 at Amazon

HP 2133 Mini-note is also a good alternative if you need a slightly bigger resolution than all the other 3 above netbooks.  The HP 2133 netbook comes with 120GB harddrive, 1.6Ghz VIA processor, and 2GB of memory.  The worst thing about this laptop is that it comes with Windows Vista, power-hogging operating system that’s not a good fit for mini-laptops.  I do like is the 8.9-inch screen with WXGA (1280 x 768) resolution, webcam, and 92% full-size keyboard, which beats all the other netbooks.

But yes, this would still be my last choice as it costs as much as your 15.4″ laptops.

HP 2133 Mini-note - $640.98 via Amazon

Well, there you have the best netbooks Latop Pimp thinks.  If you really must get a netbook, get the Eee PC1000H, it’s the best value and performance for your money.

Now, if you think all these netbooks don’t live up to your standards, get a regular laptop or better yet, wait about 6 months and you should see 5 times better netbooks.

Netbooks are still in the early stages and you need to consider the fact that they are “beta” products that manufacturers are still testing.  After 6-12months, we should expect more netbooks that are faster and better.

Dell Mini Hack - How to install a GPS!

Posted in A+Featured DIYs, Computer, Consumer, Cool, DoItYourself!, Educational, Entertainment, Gadgets, HOWTO, Hack, Laptop, Projects, USB, gps, technology by max on the October 7th, 2008 at 11:36 am

Here’s a cool hack that shows you how to install a GPS seamlessly into your Dell Mini Inspiron 9 netbook.

I started by tearing the Mini down and seeing if it was even possible. Luckily, there’s a bit of space around where the Bluetooth adapter is located. It wasn’t much, but it looked like enough, so I ordered the smallest USB GPS receiver I could find. It’s a nice unit with a SkyTraQ chipset and support for AGPS. Once I used the included utility to download an AGPS update into the unit, it gets a location fix in about five seconds after a reset.

Man Uses Remote Desktop Software to Catch Thief and Watch Porn!

Posted in A+Featured Entertainment, Computer, Consumer, Cool, Educational, Entertainment, Funny by max on the October 1st, 2008 at 2:45 pm

Here’s a funny story about a guy who uses his remote desktop software on his stolen laptop to catch the thief.  While doing so, he had do endure lots of porn, which what the thief was watching mostly.

Of course, the laptop won’t ever be the same anymore, I’d at least dismantle that keyboard and painted over with clearcoat.

It was kind of frustrating because he was mostly using it to watch porn. I couldn’t get any information on him.

iPhone Modem App is here and I am not impressed!

Posted in A+Featured Gadgets, Consumer, Gadgets, cell phones, iPhone, iPhone 3G by max on the September 14th, 2008 at 4:54 pm

iPhone modem application is here, which can turn your jailbroken iPhone into a broadband modem for your laptop or PC.

Why am I not impressed?

Well, this should be a standard feature on the iPhone.  Why should consumers have to go through the trouble of jailbreaking their phone?

Plus, AT&T’s broadband modem has proven to really suck in comparison to Sprint and Verizon.

Personally, I have a Blackberry 8830, which easily becomes a broadband modem using a USB connector.

In comparison to another PCMCIA broadband modem I have from Sprint, the speeds are about the same even with the Blackberry modem setup.

So what?

I don’t even have to try the iPhone Modem App, it can’t be faster than iPhone itself so it’s gotta be really really, really sloooowwww.

Now what?

If you are serious about doing business on the go, get a Blackberry, otherwise you can stick with your too-slow-iPhone-even-with-3G.

Have a great sunday. :p

Sun Table for Outdoor Laptopping!

Sun Table for Outdoor Laptopping!

Need to work outdoors because you need some air?  Don’t worry as the Sun Table will let you do that while your laptop is charged by the large solar panels embedded in the table.

The outdoor solar table lets you power up your laptop, via the Suns rays. The table is rather long, and would hold plenty of items, aside from your PC use. It is also water-resistant. The table is a neat idea, and would be great for those who spend a good deal of time on the internet.

Bentley Laptop causes Wallet Shrinkage and Your Mouth Drool…

Posted in Computer, Consumer, Cool, Design, Entertainment, Gadgets, Laptop by max on the July 22nd, 2008 at 7:22 pm

Bentley Laptop causes Wallet Shrinkage and Your Mouth Drool...

This Bentley Laptop may be the most luxurious laptop you might get to buy.  (Looks great for a movie-prop)

*Warning: Bentley Laptops cause wallet shrinkage and bypassers drool.

These Bentley-branded laptops will come with a Bentley door handle and Bentley’s interior leather on the outside.

While the shape reminds me more of an educational PC like the OLPC, this thing does cost an arm and a leg, around $20,000.
