Acer has just launched the very first laptops in the U.S. that are WiMAX-enabled.  Of course, people in Asia have been getting WiMAX laptops for the last year or so but hey, let’s just celebrate the fact that WiMAX is beginning its 4G speeds in the U.S.  This is just the start folks, you will begin to see people use WiMAX over all that other AT&T 3G crap.

SAN JOSE, Calif. and BALTIMORE–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Acer America, part of the worlds third largest PC company (source: Gartner data, 2Q 2008), today unveiled its first WiMAX-enabled notebooks Aspire 4930-6862 and Aspire 6930-6771 in support of the nations first U.S. WiMAX wireless broadband network launched by XOHM in Baltimore. Demonstrating the companys focus on delivering innovative technology solutions, the Aspire 4930-6862 and Aspire 6930-6771 are WiMAX-enabled Intel® Centrino 2-based notebooks with the first-ever combined WiMAX/Wi-Fi module, previously codenamed Echo Peak, part of the Intel WiMAX/Wi-Fi Link 5050 Series.

Intel’s new intelligent Hand Robot!

Intel\'s new intelligent Hand Robot!

Now here’s an intelligent robot that won’t crush your hand as it detects before grabbing stuff.

A robotic hand designed by Intel researchers is able to sense the general shape of objects before interacting with them.

The tips of its fingers send out a weak electrical impulse that objects interfere with, giving the hand a rough idea of what it’s about to grasp. Using electrolocation, as it’s known, is common in fish, particularly sharks, which detect electric fields better than any other animal.

WiMax, Mini-Laptops, and Intel\'s Support

A lot of tech bloggers (I won’t name them here) have been bashing how crappy WiMAX is when they haven’t even used it or don’t even know what the chip manufacturers are doing.

Well, finally here’s proof.  At least if Intel is thinking of new CPUs with WiMAX support, it’s going to explode!

I am going to get one of these cool UMPC with WiMax embedded.

Tranquil PC announces Intel Atom-based Harmony home servers

Tranquil PC announces Intel Atom-based Harmony home servers.

The only bad part?

It ships with Microsoft Windows Home Server, which makes it worthless to anyone who uses Linux.  Well, it’s not worthless but you gotta pay more.

two new fanless models should be shipping in June: the T7-HSAi (left, with a single 3.5-inch drive or two 2.5-inch drives) and T2-WHS-A3i (right, with up to two 3.5-inch drives), both featuring Ethernet, four USB 2.0 ports, 512MB or 1GB RAM options, and running Windows Home Server. With base configs and 500GB drives, the T7 will start at £278 ($550 US), and the T2 at £299 ($590 US).

Well, since we started a new blog over at Laptop Pimp blog, we will do a daily digest of what’s going on in the laptop world.

Today’s daily laptop digest:

Eec PC help ASUS become the 6th largest PC vendor.   Intel Eco PCs are another great sign of the on-coming mini-laptop revolution.

My next laptop will be something like the ASUS 1TB laptop with 1,000 gigabytes of storage and solve all my laptop shortage problems.

OLPC XO2 will be hotter than the first version with its dual monitor setup.

CTL IL1PC is a weird name, can we get a better name for a laptop pleeez?

DIY Laptop stands here and here.

Intel Germany ‘Confirms’ Apple iPhone Tablet!

Posted in Apple, Consumer, Gadgets, cell phones, iPhone by max on the May 18th, 2008 at 9:03 pm

Well, I hope this one makes it home as I need something like this, iPhone/iPod Touch honestly are way too small for real work.

Germany-World’s managing director Hannes Schwaderer today confirms what has long been a rumor on the Internet [...]: namely, that there is an iPhone with Intel’s new nuclear-chip type. The device is slightly larger than the current version, Schwaderer. This is not the Intel chip, but to the larger display in the new iPhone is used.

iPhone HACK - Get the latest Jailbreak v.1.1.2 and hack your iPhone!

Posted in Audio, Consumer, Cool, Gadgets, Hack by max on the November 13th, 2007 at 12:16 am

Check out this cool new Jailbreak v.1.1.2 for your iPhone. I am not sure what kind of features you get for installing this Jailbreak OS but does seem like a fun thing to do if you have couple iPhones laying around.

Conceited Software has just released an updated version of “TouchFree” GUI based to Jailbreak the latest iPhone firmware v1.1.2 and now works on Windows as well as both Mac (though Intel-based only).

However, the catch here is that for it to work you need to first run OktoPrep on iPhone v1.1.1 and then upgrade to 1.1.2. The entire JailBreaking process takes approximatley 10 minutes and as per Erica Sudan retrieves data off your iPhone or iPod Touch, upgrades it with the JailBreak, also installs the cool Installer.app and SSH.app and reloads it back to your iPhone or iPod Touch.

So for it to work you will first need to have your iPhone or iPod Touch running on firmware v1.1.1 and Jailbroken with Installer.app installed so that you can install OktoPrep which is available via the Installer App.
