Remember the industrial robot that could swing that big ass arm? Well, here’s another one but is more sensitive for precise control.

This is a small presentation of a university project I have worked on for the last 6 months. Using a real-time system the orientation of the Wii Remote is polled and sent to the Stäubli TX 60 industrial robot. The concept is stolen from a game named Kororinpa but the graphics are little more realistic :-) This was done at the chair Robotics and Embedded Systems Knoll of the Technical University of Munich.”

Here’s a great way to hack your regular ol’ Homer Simpson Clock into something that does more…

Sambuchi has made a cool Homer Simpson Clock Mod. He gutted a store bought clock and stuffed it full of electronics. It can now perform a light show and allow Homer to speak through his sound system.

Goohack Launched! - Find DIYs, HowTos, Hacks, and more!

Goohack was just launched!  It’s a search engine that uses Google API to search DIYs, HowTos, Hacks, and other technology stuff from hand-selected sites by me.

It’s pretty useful as it filters out a lot of sites you don’t consider DIY and HowTo related.

For example, type “how to run car on water” and you will get a LOT of focused DIYs and HOWTOs on that subject only.

For now, I have it up on the top right corner so next time you need to find a hack, you can try Goohack.

Here’s a list of sites included in Goohack searches right now:

zedomax.com | makezine.com | engadget.com | gizmodo.com | lifehacker.com | techeblog.com | wonderhowto.com | hackedgadgets.com | metacafe.com | youtube.com | videojug.com | boingboing.net | wikihow.com | instructables.com | evilmadscientist.com | hackaday.com | hackszine.com | craftzine.com | diylive.net | techdigest.tv | ubergizmo.com | getusb.info | youritronics.com | hardocp.com

If you have a similar niche site and would like to be added, let us know here.

DIY HACK - How to make your own Video Cassette USB Hub!

DIY HACK - How to make your own Video Cassette USB Hub!

DIY HACK - How to make your own Video Cassette USB Hub!2

Ever wonder, can I make my own cool looking USB hub that doesn’t look like a USB hub?
Well, here’s some good news for you, there’s full instructions over at instructables on how to make your own video cassette USB hub. Thank Alan over at HackedGadgets for finding it. (He always finds the coolest gadget hacks.)

Nowadays, usb hubs are getting smaller and smaller (and then, they fall behind your desk because the cable is heavier than the hub an then you have to crouch behind your computer to recover it)

So I needed something better (of course, i could have simply glued it in place )
I got some old videotapes to throw away, and suddenly an idea hit me: I like the look of these old tapes, needed an usb hub that won’t slide behind the desk, why not build an videotape usb hub?
And some LEDs could be added to nearly everything, and an videotape forms no exception i think..

So save an old tape off the landfills and give it a new, fancy life…

Remember I did a G-Force Meter couple years ago? Here’s another cool DIY G-Force meter. The only difference it that it uses 7-segment display and a PIC18F series microcontroller.

After seeing so many applications using acceleromters making a simple project of my own with this cool sensor just seemed natural.
The main application of the accelerometer is either for sensing tilt or sensing acceleration. For this application A G-Force meter for my car will be made to see how many “G’s” I pull while driving.

Tight, check out this crazy lookin’ Wii Case Mod, I wish they sold this at the store. Looks pretty simple to make though.

This Wii mod is one of the most extreme mods I have seen for the Nintendo Wii so far. The video goes over the mods that this machine went through.

“After a long time of work I have completed my Wii

Here is my Worklist:
-lightbar led exchange to Ice blue
-clear/black case install
-internal gecko adapter
-internal GC memorycard
-black painted Wii drive

Cool, someone made a Lego NXT Fireworks Robot!

This autonomous NXT robot will light multiple fireworks in a sequence - while the family sits back and watch the display!!

It uses a MINDSTORMS NXT, two light sensors (one for navigation and other to detect a lighted fuse) and an Ultrasonic detector (to adjust the torch arm height depending on the height of the fireworks fuse wire. It uses three motors - two for motion and and the third for the torch arm elvator.

Cigarette Machine uses Face-Recognition Software to detect adults!

Posted in Consumer, Cool, Entertainment, Funny, Gadgets, Robots by max on the November 7th, 2007 at 6:43 pm

Cigarette Machine uses Face-Recognition Software

Wow…. that’s kinda cool if it works without hackers like me hacking it…

The vending machine has an “adult recognition” button, and when this is pressed a tiny camera takes a photo of the customer and analyzes certain features such as wrinkles and sagging around the eyes and mouth as well as the frame of the potential buyer’s body to determine a general age.

In a test with 500 people ranging in age from their teens to their 60s, this software was able to identify adults with 90% accuracy.

Distinguishing teenagers from twenty-somethings is more difficult. So when the software cannot make a judgment call, the customer needs to insert a license to prove their age. If the machine can make a match with the license photo, it will sell cigarettes.
