For secure Gmail, simply use https://gmail.com instead of http://gmail.com.

For analyzing your network whether that be Wifi or wired, you might want to consider trying the following TCP/UDP network analyzers.
Download Ethereal - I have used Ethereal for a long time before when I used to work as an embedded network engineer. It’s a great tool and shows pretty much every packet your network passes around. (great for wifi)
Download Wireshark - Similar to Ethereal, I believe this tool is based on the same core as the Ethereal.
Google Hack - Get Olympic Scores/Schedule on Google!

Google is providing some live scores and schedules if you type, “xxx olympics”, where “xxx” is the name of your sport.
Search Engine Land noticed that Google now shows a onebox* for certain Olympics-related queries, like tennis olympics or taekwondo olympics. This seems to work in the US and China but not, for instance, using normal google.com results from Germany. In the onebox, you’ll see an icon alongside the upcoming events for the sports category, linked to Beijing2008.cn.

DIY Chumby HACK - How to hack a 640×480 VGA LCD onto a Chumby!

Here’s a really cool Chumby hack that will allow you to use a bigger 640×480 pixel LCD on your favorite little gadget.
Chumby is different; it is open source, and designed to be hacked. For example, the serial port is spelled out on the silkscreen for you and there’s a backdoor to enable sshd, so it’s not big deal to bring up the console. Because of its hackability, you are enabled to do significant modifications due to the availability of all levels of design documentation—hardware, drivers, and application software. While it would be an enormous task to, for example, open up a Zune and put a larger screen on it, here, in this post, I will show you how to hack a chumby to have a larger, higher-resolution screen without too much effort. The native chumby screen is a 3.5” QVGA (320×240) display, but after you complete this hack, you will be treated to a 5.7” VGA (640×480) display.
Wii Hack - Wii Nunchuck and Arduino controls 3D Studio Max!

Here’s a cool Nintendo Wii hack that controls 3D Studio Max with a Nintendo Wii Nunchuck and Arduino as controller.
A good way to control objects in 3DS is to use the track view to assign different type of controllers to the various properties of the object you want to control. For instance, if you want to have small vibrations on the tip of a bird’s wing, you can use a Noise Controller. For this setup, I used the Motion Capture controller.
Gas Hack - Pre-Purchase Gas Cards and Save on Rising Gas Prices!

It looks like there’s now a “pre-pay” solution to saving some money on by purchasing gas in advance.
You can go to MyGallons.com to purchase your future gas at current prices.
The high price of gasoline has some U.S. drivers looking to the future.
A recently introduced service called MyGallons.com allows drivers to fill up their tanks sometime in the future but at current prices, using a debit-like card which banks gallons rather than dollars.
“The price of gasoline was changing all the time. It seemed unpredictable,” Steven Verona, founder and owner of the Miami-based company, said on Monday.

Photography Hack - Image Fulgurator inserts messages onto other people Digital Cameras!

Here’s an interesting photography hacking tool. Basically the image fulgurator inserts messages onto other people’s photos by displaying the letters at the exact moment the innocent photographer’s flash goes off.
Kind cool for sending messages in a tourist attaction.
It’s a reactive flash image-projector… or, to put it another way, a real-world hack of other people’s photos. Sounds sinister, looks sinister… works great. Adapted from a flash gun and an old SLR, it senses the flash of someone’s camera, and then quickly illuminates itself, projecting images or text onto the object that was being snapped. The video of bemused tourists in Berlin, peering in confusion at the screen of their digicams is priceless.
