Here’s some interesting news from researchers at MIT developing robot “Garden” automation. I have to speculate on how “effective” this would be but I imagine it will be highly effective than not.

From the looks, it seems they’ve put a webcam, servo motor, and other goodies for plants in the project. This might be a sign that robot farming may not be too far from reality.

Heck, I’d like to purchase one of these robotic garden kits at Wal-Mart and grow my own “automated” farm with ability to expand to as many acres as you want.

Then all you’d have to do is buy some land and these extensible robotic garden kits.

Okay, enough of me rambling for the day, read on.

The machines are networked and communicate in real time. The project was put together by Nikolaus Correll, a postdoctoral assistant working in MIT’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, with the aim of getting a similar system to someday work on a large, economically viable scale.

Food Hack – How to Make Seaweed!

Seaweed has always been a big food group in my life, due to the fact that Koreans love seaweed and its everywhere in the ocean in Korea.

Now, seaweed does have lots of nutritional goodies like vitamins and they are like the ultimate vegetable from the sea, something the land can’t offer with its mass-produced crap. (unless it’s organic and local, well, still…)

My mom grew up in a small island in South Korea, where her family were the richest sea farmers on that island. (It’s called the Namhae Island here) Her dad (or my grampa), had a big ass boat and they used to catch everything from sea urchins to big tuna fish. One of my mom’s sisters is actually a politician (like a Senate) on the island now!

During those days, my mom and her 10 sisters would dive to the bottom of the sea and bring up lots and lots of fresh seaweed. (and other natural sea ground inhabitants)

Now, you can always dry the seaweed and hibernate it for later use or cook it in a soup right away.

So, there’s really no way to “make” seaweed but yes, seaweed is all good and all natural.

Did you know seaweed is one of the main ingredients in ice cream?

For vegetarians, this might be a great way to add a good sea menu to your diet. For everyone else, you should really look at seaweed as the “vegetable” of the sea.

You know, sometimes people don’t realize the power of the people on the internet.

Above video is where a kid gets an “X” box for Christmas with winter clothes inside it.

I guess Engadget posted this and Microsoft might be sending him a brand new real XBOX with probably more goodies than he can handle.

Great job guys.

We’ve been flooded with email from well-meaning geeks and even Microsoft; just about everyone wants to help us hook up Jonathan. We totally appreciate the sentiment, but we’ve got this covered. We think we’ve gotten in touch with his family (who let us know he never got an Xbox, and the whole thing really was a prank on the poor kid); once we know for sure we have the right people we’ll post again.

On another plus note, I got $5 from Big Pappa and $10 from Mike to get more Soju over at SiteHoppin.com. (Thanks guys, I will be able to afford brew for couple more days!)

What to do at CES: The Hack’s Guide to Las Vegas

Cool, check out Valleywag’s guide on what to do in Las Vegas. Although I personally do think you’d easily find something to do in Vegas, this guide can be helpful for Vegas first timers.

Your wife and kids want you to bring them back some Vegas goodies. Head to M & M’s World by the MGM Grand. You can get all kinds of M&M’s merchandise including clothing and every color of M candy imaginable. Not into M&M’s? Everything Coca-Cola is next door. Lots of classic Coke gear to purchase or head upstairs to the soda jerk and try the Tastes of the World, a taster kit of 16 different Coca-Cola products from around the globe.

Oh yeah, and make SURE to take a picture in front of the famous sign like I did above…

And yes, I did go to the M&M store and posed with their top sexy star m.

Looks like John Chow is at CES again, he MUST be having fun…
