DIY - How to Make a Chapstick LED Flashlight!

Here’s a fun DIY on how to make a chapstick LED flashlight.  It’s pretty simple to do but a great idea.  Maybe Chapstick companies will pick up on this and make them as promotion materials.

This is an instructable on how to make a flashlight out of a ChapStick tube. After reading up on multiple LED instructables I thought it would be neat to make an original design that had not been done before. Since button cell batteries can be expensive, I went with an A23 (12V) battery that cost less than $2.00 for two.

Flashlight with Integrated Video Camera!

Here’s a cool flashlight that also embeds an integrated video camera.  How neat is that?

Now you can go in the dark and shoot your favorite videos with just a single flashlight.

There’s no word when this will be available in the U.S. though…darn.

The AD-1500 Video Flashlight records video with its mini CMOS camera and built-in microphone. As long as you’re not too intrigued by the rookie puking over in the corner, you could pick up every single bit of crime information, literally not being left in the dark. The camera records in MP4 format right onto microSD cards. Up to 2GB of video time, or around 180 minutes.

DIY Amateur TV Receiver!

DIY Amateur TV Receiver!

Here’s another cool DIY amateur TV receiver!

This is a 1.2 GHz microwave antenna made from regular 6″ household air duct. It picks up a signal from our new Amateur TV repeater. (The repeater will take a TV signal from anywhere in the local county, and retransmits it to everywhere in the local county.) The antenna looks like a giant flashlight.

DIY HACK - Painting with light…

Posted in Consumer, Educational, Entertainment, Graphics, photography by max on the September 12th, 2007 at 11:48 pm

Painting with light…

Check out how you can create some nice photographs with light added.

Here is how it’s done:

Set your camera on the tripod and take a sample shot with flash / lights on. This will help you verify that your composition is OK.

Set the exposure to a relatively long value. Stop down the aperture as much as you need. If you are outside do nothing. If you are inside - this is the time to close the lights.

Make the click. Once the shutter is open use your flashlight to light the stuff that you want to “paint”. You can use the flashlight as a brash, and “smear” the light, just like you would have done with brush and paper. Or, you can use the light as a pen, and do precise work. Areas where you go slowly will be more lit then others. Be careful not to linger to much over the same stop - you will burn it. (The machos amongst you will correctly identify this as the “I forgot the iron on the shirt” phenomena).
