MT9 - A new Audio File Format that may take MP3s to another level!

MP9 is a new type of audio file format that allows the user to control each musical instrument.

For example, let’s say you are listening to some rap but you wanted to voice your own vocals, turn off the vocals and wala.

Another example is if you were a guitarholic and you wanted to listen to only guitar, you can turn off the bass, vocal, and everything else to focus on the guitar sounds only.

This is a great idea by the way. Currently, you could do something slightly similar by filtering the frequencies of the music file but it would require a lot of technical knowledge on the users part.

If this file format goes international and live, which I believe it will, you will get another level of user control and experience for every song you hear.

The MT9 technology was first conceived by Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) and is being shaped into commercial use by venture company Audizen. It was selected as a candidate item for the new digital music standard at a regular meeting of Motion Picture Experts Group (MPEG), the international body of the digital music and video industry, held in France late April.

“We made presentations to the participants and they were all surprised to see it. They immediately voted to make it a candidate for the digital music standard,” said Ham Seung-chul, chief of Audizen. He is expecting it will be formerly selected as an international standard in the MPEG forum’s next meeting to be held in Germany June.

The news that by the year 2020 that every South Korean will have a robot is probably going to
happen earlier. But the real good news is that ROMI is a voice-recognizing robot that cleans
your robot. I want one, will you guys send us samples?

The Korean Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) has recently revealed a new house-cleaning robot called ROMI. This bot is expected to make its official debut at the CES 2007 trade show later this month where more information will be available.

ROMI is a floor-cleaning robot capable of understanding voice-activated commands. It has a video camera mounted in its head and can transmit video via a Wireless/CDMA connection to cell phones or PCs.

This is one of several household robots being introduced to South Korean homes this year in the preliminary stages of South Koreas larger goal to have a robot in every South Korean home by 2020.
