After months since Google’s new mobile operating system Android become public, they have improved on their Android even further. Their new Android handset was shown in the U.K. to demonstrate the potential of the Google operating system.
The good news is that we might start seeing Android, real soon, soon as the next 2 weeks from T-mobile.
Here’s some recent news around the globe about the Google Android:
Google shows off final Android:
The new handset, shown off by Google’s Mike Jennings at Wembley Stadium, looked very much like the HTC Dream, but had its branding covered up. Jennings demonstrated Google maps, though there was no Street View data of London (if that feature will be available, it’s very exciting). Jennings also spoke about carriers: “a lot of [them] are in a different mindset from Google.”
Jennings gave a nice demonstration of an OpenGL and Java application that showed a cube morphing and rotating. I’d run the same application on my own PC in the office, and this was running far smoother on a mobile handset. 40 frames per second, claimed Jennings. It’s impressive stuff.
T-mobile may sell Android handsets in just 2 weeks
Deutsche Telekom’s T-Mobile USA unit will start selling a mobile phone that uses Google’s Android software within weeks, said two people with firsthand knowledge of the plan.
The two companies plan to present details of the release Sept. 23 in New York, said the people, who declined to be identified as preparations are confidential. The handset will be a smartphone, which allows users to surf the Web more quickly, check e-mails, send and view videos and download music and maps.

Magnet HACK - High-speed Magnetic Levitation / Floating Magnets Dude!

Here’s a great demonstration of a levitating magnet with 2 high-speed rotating cylinders.
Maybe someone can take this idea further and make us some hoverboards please!
While working on science museum exhibits in 1990 I came up with the above idea: it is known that a spinning metal disk will lift and fling a strong magnet. Therefore, metal rods with opposite spin will lift a magnet but WON’T fling it sideways. It works! I used “sched-80″ heavy wall copper tubes about 1-3/8″ diameter, 12″ long, with 1/4″ wall thickness. I hammered aluminum plugs into the tubes, carved shaft-tips with a lathe, built endblocks and bearings, spun them with an AC/DC motor, and managed to levitate a stack of two 3/4″ diameter neodymium magnets. The spinning tubes must move at about 5000 RPM before the magnet starts floating.

Here’s a cool hack showing you how to unblock blocked caller-ID numbers.
*This is informational purposes only. Do not use this hack unless you are a law enforcement agent.
In a demonstration video, a hacker tweaks said asterisk box with some new configurations to strip out privacy flags, forward the call to another number, and ultimately reveal caller ID information which, surprisingly, is still available. This isn’t meant to be easy, but if the terms “prepend,” “SIP trunk,” and “asterisk box” don’t scare you away, go ahead and watch the video after the break.
MIT Students Develop Solar Dish Capable of 1000X Sun Power!

Here’s a cool solar dish that is capable of “vaporizing” water the second you hit the apex of its dish. The MIT students have already formed a corporation, there’s no telling when this will be available for homes and offices.
The results are staggering — the completed mirror focuses enough solar energy at its focal point to melt solid steel. The energy of typical sunlight is concentrated by a factor of 1,000. This was showcased during a demonstration, in which a team member held up a board, which instantly and violently combusted, when brought within range of the focal point.

DIY Hard Disk Drive Drum Machine!

Wow, this is awesome! This guy is serious about recycling. The hard disks are connected to his MIDI system and are all coordinated to play drums. Well watch the video after the jump to see it in action!
Fibra from Belgrade has created an interesting drum system. It uses old hard drive read/write arms as drum hammers. The original hard drive voice coils are used to move the arms. The picture above is the new system which doesn’t seem to be documented yet, have a look at the video for a demonstration of the first version. If you need a larger hard drive project fix have a look at these hard drive projects.
