DIY HACK - The Redneck 30 minute hovercraft using cardboard box and save precious resources too!

The Redneck 30 minute hovercraft using cardboard box and save precious resources too!

Yep, you CAN make a hovercraft during your lunch break now. Just follow the directions!

I built a working hovercraft using cardboard and a shop vacuum in 30 minutes.

You can build a hovercraft quickly and easily using cardboard, duct tape, and a vacuum. There are excellent instructions available on the Internet. I adapted these standard instructions by substituting cardboard for plywood. In fact you build a hovercraft out of most anything that’s more or less airtight.

You can ride your hovercraft outside by using a gas powered leaf blower instead of a vacuum. Don’t use a leaf blower indoors because they are very loud and create smoke. One problem you will encounter outside is that there are few flat surfaces. Tennis courts work well. If you try to ride on the road you will quickly end up in the ditch since roads have a convex surface that keeps rainwater from building up.

Well… you CAN make an alarm system in 3 minutes too… (That means you can make 10 alarm systems for the time it takes to make 1 hovercraft…)

The minimalist clock

Posted in Circuits, Consumer, Cool, Gadgets by david on the July 31st, 2007 at 11:00 am

zero clock

We all need to know the time, even if it is only once a day. But many of the clocks that are around these days are mainly all casing and with a tiny clock mechanism that runs the important stuff, like the hands.

zero clock

So it is great to see a clock that has been cut back to the minimum, with only the battery used as a stand and a plain flat sheet as the clock face. But can be used anywhere that you want, home or work.

zero clock

This cool digital clock will only cost $40.

Electric plant prototype

Posted in Circuits, Consumer, Cool, Energy, Funny, Gadgets by david on the July 18th, 2007 at 7:00 am

Do you ever get fed up with all of those electrical sockets that lay empty? Well you can now brighten them up with a nice flower planter. Now that is flower power!

die electric

These have been designed by serial socket filler Scott Amron of Die Electric, who has made installations for the electric sockets out of some very odd things indeed, including fire extinguishers, corks, glass and cables, some are very arty indeed which is great, because they make use of the space that does not really look nice on the best of days.

The planter electric socket covers are priced at $225.

Moving LED coffee table

Posted in Circuits, Consumer, Cool, Entertainment, Funny, Gadgets by david on the July 17th, 2007 at 3:00 pm

The LED lights move when something is placed on or near the table, so if you placed a glass of wine on it the light would move to be on underneath it, the same goes if you waved your hand over the table, the light come on and follow your movement. The surface can be made from either glass or plastic, depending on your preference.

LED coffee table

Inside the table there are 32 infrared sensors which pick up the move or close proximity and therefore activate the lights all 480 of them. As you move the light come on and off with the movement.

The table does not use as much power as you would expect, only 35 Watts when fully active, which is around the same as a single household light bulb. It measures 62 “ L x 31 “ W x 18 “ H, and these tables are made to order, which can between four to six weeks.

The prices of the fantastic looking table start at around $2,500.

Bright spark light bulb

Posted in Circuits, Consumer, Cool, Funny, Gadgets by david on the July 16th, 2007 at 11:00 am

You may be wondering exactly why a light bulb is listed as a gadget, well it may have the appearance of a humble light bulb, and in fact it does actually illuminate to a certain extent, but this device is also a sophisticated time piece.

magic light bulb

On one you have the light, and the other side has an LCD display, which shows the current time, date and temperature. Powered by battery, you will also get a really great light show from the LED which runs through a color cycle with a variety of colors that could be nice and relaxing.

The colorful light bulb is priced at $12.

Tagz is a new concept in getting your message across to everyone or just that special person.

tagz

These are customizable dog tags, which will obviously look a lot better in the dark, especially good when going to a nightclub or somewhere special. What’s great is that these are total programmable and can have any message that you wish.

tagz

There are three control buttons on the back; this is where you can input all of your messages, but try not to be too rude!

The device requires 1 x CR2032 battery and will cost just $20.
