Halloween DIYs - Pitchfork LED, Talking Halloween Basket, and spinning wireless thingee
Pitchfork LED!
Although we haven’t been doing much DIYs lately, you can check out the Pitchfork LED for ideas for this Halloween!

Here’s the really cool spinning bluetooth wireless hoverboard!
Now if you are really serious, you can make this talking Halloween basket using couple LEDs and a CUBLOC chip.
Hmmm…I just can’t think of anything this year so you are going to have to review our last year’s DIYs for now until my thinking block is gone…

DIY HACK - HOWTO Update the Arduino

Here’s a little hack on HOWTO update your Arduino Chip from David Fowler. (Thanks David!)
After doing the reset mod to my Arduino Compatible Bare Bones Boards I wanted to update the firmware to get the full benefit of the Diecimila update. I followed the directions on the Arduino website but could not succeed. I sent emails and did web searches and still did not find the answer. Ultimately with the help of David Mellis, one of the Arduino Team members, we figured out that it can not be done from the IDE using the simple cable described at the Arduino web site. It can be done however and this article will give you the information needed to update or program new Mega168 chips with the latest Arduino code.
Folder and iPod together
Whether is a binder or folder make no difference they are just boring things that hold paper and other documents or are they?
five star
This one from Five Star seems to be slightly different, as there has been a place made in the front for an iPod, now there is nothing boring about that. There are even some speakers fixed into the binder just above the iPod compartment.
The binders come in several colors, like red, black and red, white or pink.

Mini Cooper Billboard in San Francisco

You can see this Mini Cooper Billboard in San Francisco on your way towards Bay Bridge. I guess this is actually RFID enabled which is kinda cool. Yes, it’s a very effective way of advertising as I do read it about 75% of the time that I pass by this spot looking for changes in what the Mini Cooper is saying… (mostly kinda stupid… one time it was saying something like “Be small and Go faster” or something) But it is indeed very creative. I don’t know if it actually can identify Mini drivers but I will try to see if the sign changes next time I see a Mini in front of me… (and take a video of course!)
The boards, which usually carry typical advertising, are programmed to identify approaching Mini drivers through a coded signal from a radio chip embedded in their key fob. The messages are personal, based on questionnaires that owners filled out: “Mary, moving at the speed of justice,” if Mary is a lawyer, or “Mike, the special of the day is speed,” if Mike is a chef.
Touch control chip for your next “touch” buttons

You can now easily make a touch application similar to the touch interface on the
LG Chocolate. Check out touch-sensor chip you can use for your next embedded
application or even maybe wii hacking or ps3 hacking…
QT113 family QTouchT ICs create sense fields through dielectric surfaces such as plastic or glass up to 100mm (4″) thick, and can even turn small objects into sensors. These sense fields can work easily through gloved hands.
